PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: In a much-anticipated interview hosted on X, formerly known as Twitter, former US President Donald Trump discussed various contentious topics with Elon Musk, ranging from immigration to the economy and education.

The interview, initially delayed due to a cyberattack, quickly became the center of a heated debate, particularly over Trump’s remarks about dismantling the federal Department of Education.

The conversation, which amassed an audience of over a million listeners, began with a technical hiccup as a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack disrupted the scheduled start time. Musk announced on X, "There appears to be a massive DDOS attack on X. Working on shutting it down."

Despite the disruption, the interview proceeded with a reduced number of live listeners. Musk later explained, "We tested the system with 8 million concurrent listeners earlier today," emphasizing the platform’s technical resilience.

As the discussion unfolded, Trump touched on various subjects, including an attempted assassination at an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Reflecting on the incident, Trump credited illegal immigration for saving his life, stating, "Illegal immigration saved my life. You’re right." This exchange set the stage for the interview’s subsequent controversial discussions.

One of the most notable declarations by Trump during the interview was his intent to close the federal Department of Education.

Established in 1980, the department's roles include overseeing federal financial aid, collecting data on American schools, and promoting educational equity, as reported by The Guardian.

Criticizing the nation’s education system, Trump remarked, "We’re ranked at the bottom of every list of the top 40... And yet we spend more per pupil than any other country in the world."

He further elaborated on his plan, saying, "What I’m going to do is one of the first acts, and this is where I need an Elon Musk. I want to close up the Department of Education."

Donald Trump's suggestion to shutter Department of Education sparks backlash online

Trump’s suggestion to shutter the Department of Education ignited a storm of criticism on social media.

One X user commented, "Of course he does. The people that vote for him don't need it because none of them went to college. looool," while another remarked, "Education gets in the way of cultism, so that checks out." One said, "Yeah folks illiterate & replace education with propaganda. This man is a complete hack."

Another said, "Trump places no value on education because he’s a moron. And I mean this in the literal sense of the word, as in denoting mild intellectual disability. He is not a smart person and there is no metric by which to prove otherwise."

A user stated, "One of the dumbest people want to close Department of Education!! And his cult are agreeing with him."

One remarked, "This guy shouldn’t even dream of being the president ever again." A comment read, "He knows the only way he can maintain a cult is to reduce education."

A final user remarked, "As if his followers aren't dumb enough, Trump wants to end what little education they have. Their kids will think Gatorade is good for watering the crops."
