NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Donald Trump explained that he is "disappointed" with Julia Roberts for a recent commercial in which she encouraged women to vote “in secret” for Kamala Harris.

The Oscar-winning actress narrated a 30-second ad showing two women entering a polling booth, exchanging glances, and casting their votes privately for Harris who is challenging Trump in the upcoming election.

Donald Trump calls Julia Roberts' ad 'cringe-worthy'

The advertisement, produced by the liberal group Vote Common Good, underscores the privacy of the voting booth, with Julia Roberts narrating, “In the one place in America where women still have a right to choose, you can vote any way you want, and no one will ever know."

"Remember, what happens in the booth stays in the booth,” she added.

As one woman leaves the polling station, her husband asks, “Did you make the right choice?” to which she confidently replies, “Sure did, honey.”

On Saturday, November 2, Trump shared his reaction to Roberts’ advertisement during an interview on 'Fox and Friends'.

“I’m so disappointed at Julia Roberts. She’s going to look back at that and cringe,” he said, adding, “I happen to be married to a rather strong woman. I’ve surrounded myself with strong women."

"Can you imagine a wife not telling her husband who she’s voting for? Did you ever hear anything like that?" he continued.

"Even if you have a bad relationship, you’re going to tell your husband. That’s a ridiculous ad,” Trump added.

Julia Roberts' ad faces backlash from Republican women’s groups

Toni Holt Kramer, founder of the Trumpettes, a prominent Republican women’s group, echoed Donald Trump’s disapproval, stating that Julia Roberts should “stick to acting” instead of talking about politics.

“How patronizing is it, in this day and age, to suggest women need permission to vote differently to their husbands? Women aren’t stupid. Ms Roberts is absurdly condescending,” Kramer commented, according to Daily Mail.

Harris has focused heavily on issues surrounding women’s rights, specifically the right to choose, as a key part of her campaign.

The issue has gained momentum after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade, which previously legalized abortion across the United States.

Hollywood celebrities rally behind Kamala Harris

Julia Roberts is not alone in her endorsement of Kamala Harris as Harrison Ford joined the roster of Hollywood celebrities supporting the Democratic candidate.

In a recent video, Ford, 82, encouraged Americans to vote for Harris, saying, “Kamala Harris will protect your right to disagree with her about her policies or her ideas.”

Ford joins an ever-growing list of high-profile figures who have publicly endorsed Harris, including Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Leonardo DiCaprio.
