WASHINGTON: Prices for the non-fungible tokens that Donald Trump had previously launched increased when he revealed a new $99 NFT collection called the "Mugshot Edition," which was a reference to the former US president's legal issues.

A portion of the suit that Trump wore for his mugshot when he was arrested in August will be given to anyone who purchases 47 Trump cards (if elected, he will become the 47th US president) or more, which would also grant them supper with the former resident at Mar-a-Lago.

The NFT project's website stated, "In this Edition, some cards will even be one-of-ones (the only one in the world), while some others could even be hand-signed by President Donald J Trump."

According to statistics from NFT marketplace OpenSea, previously issued Trump NFTs reversed at as low as 0.1 ether (ETH), which was half of the 0.2 ETH price they traded before the announcement. However, floor prices later rose to about 0.18 ETH.

Even though he remained skeptical about cryptocurrencies while serving as president, Trump unveiled an NFT initiative last year called Trump Digital Collectible Cards, which featured his likenesses on baseball cards.

In April of this year, he launched a second line of collectibles. Every item in both collections was sold out.

According to official papers obtained by governmental ethics group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, as of early August, Trump had $2.8 million in a cryptocurrency wallet, generated via NFT sales.

Internet reacts to Donald Trump's latest NFT promotion

Several internet users dropped in their views on Twitter/X after Donald Trump sold snippets of mugshot suits and a Mar-a-Lago dinner in the latest NFT promotion.

A person wrote, "Trump Digital Trading Cards (NFTs) are intended as collectible items for individual enjoyment only, not for investment purposes," while one commented, "The more involved he personally gets in crypto the more he will defend it."

Another person added, "Funniest thing about this is he will ALWAYS dilute the supply but it will be aped without fail If you’re still aping Trump cards as investments I don’t know what to tell you."

A user also mentioned, "Can't tell if this is AI or not," whereas one added, "Looks like I'm going for my 2nd dinner."
