NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former President Donald Trump won the Colorado GOP primary on March 5, Super Tuesday, a day after the United States Supreme Court ruled that he was allowed to be on the state's ballot.

According to NBC News, Trump won the Colorado Primary with a vote share of 62.9%. He also bagged 21 of the state's 37 total delegates. Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, Trump's last remaining competitor in the presidential race within the GOP, trailed behind with 33.6% votes and 11 delegates.

How did Donald Trump get back on the Colorado ballot?

Back in December 2023, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that the former President was disqualified from holding the presidency under the insurrection clause, and subsequently ordered his name be taken off the 2024 Republican primary ballot.

Trump took up the case to the US Supreme Court, where the nine judges unanimously ruled in his favor, and settled the the longstanding debate of whether he violated the “insurrectionist clause” included in the 14th Amendment.

However, the justices were divided on the sweep of their order, with a 5 judges majority, which included Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh noting, "We conclude that States may disqualify persons holding or attempting to hold state office. But States have no power under the Constitution to enforce Section 3 with respect to federal offices, especially the Presidency."

“Nothing in the Constitution delegates to the States any power to enforce Section 3 against federal officeholders and candidates,” they added.

Colorado's Secretary of State Jena Griswold later issued a statement saying, "The United States Supreme Court has ruled that states do not have the authority to enforce Section 3 of the 14th Amendment for federal candidates. In accordance with this decision, Donald Trump is an eligible candidate in Colorado’s 2024 Presidential Primary."
