WASHINGTON, DC: Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley said she was "very happy" with the US Supreme Court's decision to restore former President Donald Trump to the Colorado ballot, reported The Hill.

The former South Carolina Governor expressed her opinion on the landmark ruling during a conversation on CNN's 'The Lead' with Jake Tapper on Monday, March 4, emphasizing that voters had the right to decide whether Trump should lead the country.

"We don't want the chaos of certain states or secretaries of state saying that they like someone or don't like someone and want to take them off the ballot. I trust the American people," Haley said, adding, "I think at the end of the day, they will decide who they want to lead this country. And I think we should let it happen that way. So I was very happy with the Supreme Court ruling."

The SCOTUS on March 4 unanimously overturned the Colorado Supreme Court's decision to remove Trump from the state ballot over his alleged involvement in insurrection during the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack.

The top court ruled states cannot disqualify a federal candidate under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment's insurrection clause, and the authority to enforce it lies solely with Congress. The verdict revoked similar decisions in Maine and Illinois.

Nikki Haley says she wants to defeat Trump 'fair and square'

Speaking to Tapper, Haley underscored that the former President's removal from the ballot was unnecessary for her to win.

"I'm trying to defeat Donald Trump fair and square. I don't need them taking him off the ballot to do it. I think we're trying to share enough that this is chaos that we want to get back to an America that's normal and that we need a new generational leader. And that's the way we're going to continue pushing forward," she said.

The former UN ambassador, who has only won the Washington DC primary against Trump thus far, recently vowed to continue in the race "as long as" her presidential campaign remains "competitive."

Weighing in on whether the 14th Amendment should be "taken seriously" considering the ruling, the White House hopeful pointed out, "the Supreme Court wasn't there to decide whether it was an insurrection or not."

She added that the apex court aimed to determine whether a candidate could be lifted off the ballot, and the final verdict was a "right decision" that allowed the people to decide.

Trump and Haley will next face each other in the crucial Super Tuesday primaries on March 5, when 15 states as the territory of American Samoa will choose their presidential nominee.
