Donald Trump says he got to know King Charles during his presidency
On Monday, February 5, Trump took to social media to wish King Charles a swift recovery and added that he got to know the monarch during his presidency.
"King Charles has cancer. He is a wonderful man, who I got to know well during my presidency, and we all pray that he has a fast and full recovery!" the former president wrote on Truth Social.
President Joe Biden also expressed his concern for King Charles over his cancer diagnosis.
At a union event in Las Vegas, Nevada, Biden spoke to reporters as he said, "I’m concerned about him…just heard his diagnosis. But I’ll be talking to him God willing."
The 75-year-old king last met Biden in July at Windsor Castle for the first time since his coronation in May.
The two leaders reportedly discussed climate change during their last meeting, according to The Independent.
King Charles postpones public-facing duties
The statement issued by the palace has not revealed the type of cancer King Charles has been diagnosed with but has shared that he does not have prostate cancer.
The announcement comes eight days after he was released from the hospital after a "corrective procedure" for his benign prostate condition.
"During The King's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted," read a statement released by Buckingham Palace.
"Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties," it added.
"Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual," it continued.
"He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible," the statement further said.
King Charles' decision to disclose his diagnosis intends to offer support to those affected by cancer.
"His majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding of all those around the world who are affected by cancer," the statement concluded.
