Joe Biden slammed for falsely claiming Beau Biden died during war while talking to slain soldier's family
WASHINGTON, DC: In a recent call with the grieving parents of a US service member who was killed in an Iran-backed drone strike in Jordan, President Joe Biden wrongly suggested that his son Beau Biden died in the Iraq war.
The conversation, which took place on Tuesday, January 30, was first reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
President Biden told Shawn and Oneida Oliver-Sanders, the parents of Kennedy Sanders, 24, one of the three U.S. soldiers killed in a drone attack in Jordan that his son spent a year in Iraq, "That's how I lost him." Beau Biden died of brain cancer. WATCHpic.twitter.com/Bh4ElLnP05

Joe Biden tells late soldier's grieving family he lost his son Beau Biden in the war in Iraq
During the emotional conversation with late Specialist Kennedy Ladon Sanders' parents Shawn Sanders and Oneida Oliver-Sanders, the President asserted that his son Beau Biden died in Iraq.
Biden expressed condolences and informed the late soldier's parents that their daughter would be posthumously promoted to sergeant.
"Oh wow, that is the best news I’ve heard today, thank you so much," said Oliver-Sanders as she and her husband became emotional. "You don’t know how much that means to us," he said.
"Oh, well, I tell you what, it means a lot to me. My son spent a year in Iraq; that’s how I lost him," Biden responded.
Sanders, who died during a January 28 drone strike, that targeted Army soldiers at a base known as Tower 22 was one of three US service members killed in the attack in northern Jordan near the Syrian border.
How did Beau Biden die?
The veracity of Biden's claims is in question as Beau Biden died from glioblastoma, the most common form of brain cancer, according to Fox News.
Beau who served a tour in Iraq from 2008 to 2009 died in May 2015 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
In a 2019 speech, he referenced Beau, saying, "[Because] of exposure to burn pits, in my view — I can’t prove it yet — he came back with stage four glioblastoma. Eighteen months he lived, knowing he was going to die."
However, Biden also claimed to have lost his son to the war in Iraq during a speech near Vail, Colorado, in 2022.
"I say this as a father of a man who won the Bronze Star, the Conspicuous Service Medal, and lost his life in Iraq," he said at the time.
In June 2023 at Nash Community College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, he made the same claim as he said, "I lost my son — we lost our son in Iraq."

"Biden always lies and makes it about him and doesn’t put himself in their shoes. How unfortunate. RIP Soldier," a user remarked while another user tweeted, "Can someone please call him out to his face for this lie? I've seen him use it over and over."
