Donald Trump's campaign points out Tim Walz's subtle dig at JD Vance during his DNC speech
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Former president Donald Trump's campaign denounced a swipe against running mate Senator JD Vance, R-Ohio, made by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz during the Democratic National Convention.
Walz, who officially acknowledged the Democratic vice presidential selection on Wednesday evening, August 21, delivered a speech at the United Center in Chicago, discussing his background in the Midwest.
Tim Walz's DNC speech
"Now, I grew up in Butte, Nebraska, a town of 400 people. I had 24 kids in my high school class, and none of them went to Yale," Tim Walz said, prompting laughter from the audience, per Fox News.
He added, "But I'll tell you what. Growing up in a small town like that, you'll learn how to take care of each other. That that family down the road, they may not think like you do. They may not pray like you do. They may not love like you do. But they're your neighbors. And you look out for them, and they look out for you."
Donald Trump's campaign posted a clip of Tim Walz's remark about Yale
The Trump War Room X account shared a video clip including Tim Walz's comment on Yale, the law school that Vance attended.
"Walz: ‘I had 24 kids in my high school class and none of them went to Yale,’" Trump War Room noted, adding, "Weird flex!"

JD Vance penned a memoir about his time as a Yale Law School student
JD Vance is the author of 'Hillbilly Elegy', a memoir that was made into a Netflix movie that recounts his experiences as a Yale Law School student thinking back on his Appalachian upbringing.
During his first appearance as Trump's running mate at the RNC, Vance talked candidly about his upbringing by his grandmother, who he characterized as strict and drug-free and who would trade with Meals on Wheels volunteers to help feed him when he was a child.
Vance, who is recognized for his ability to connect with middle-class Midwesterners in the Rust Belt, also discussed his mother's protracted struggle with addiction. She has been clean for about ten years now. Soon after he graduated from Middletown, Ohio, high school, Vance joined the Marine Corps. Before going to Yale Law School, he attended Ohio State University.
JD Vance responds to Tim Walz's reference to Yale
Martha MacCallum of Fox News questioned JD Vance about Tim Walz's allusion to Yale, implying that he was calling him "Mr Fancypants Ivy League."
"I grew up in a very poor family. I was raised by my grandmother who didn't graduate from high school, much less from college," Vance responded.
"And I am proud of the fact that she really worked her tail off – she went to her grave fighting to give me opportunities. I’m not ashamed of the fact that my grandmother sacrificed for me, and I was able to live the American Dream. I’m proud of what I accomplished, and, more importantly, I’m proud of all the people who sacrificed in order to give me a better life," he continued.
"I would think Tim Walz would want to praise people who sacrificed to give their children and grandchildren a better life, not put me down, but I guess this is the political order of the day," Vance added. "He’s going to attack me. That’s fine. But I’m proud of my family. I’m proud of what they sacrificed to make my life possible."
Tim Walz has had 'stolen valor' attacks from fellow veterans
In contrast, Tim Walz spent 24 years as an Army National Guard member after enlisting at the age of 17.
The fact that he allegedly chose to retire in order to run for Congress, even though his unit deployed to Afghanistan months later, has led to new accusations of "stolen valor" from other veterans.
Walz received a Bachelor of Science from Nebraska's Chadron State College, per his congressional biography. The former high school teacher from Minnesota is not without connections to Ivy League schools.
As part of a group of government-approved American instructors dispatched to the communist nation under a Harvard University program, he taught high school in China from 1989 to 1990.
Internet lashes out at Tim Walz for taking a lame dig at JD Vance
Netizens berated the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee for taking a shot at JD Vance during his speech at the DNC.
One X user tweeted, "This is such a bad bad bad dig at jd. Like truly." Another added, "Tim Walz sounds like a terrible teacher!"
