WASHINGTON, DC: Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum sparked outrage as he claimed that there is still "room" on Mount Rushmore for the face of President Donald Trump to be added.

The 68-year-old Republican suggested to Lara Trump during an interview on Saturday, March 29, that with what the 78-year-old incumbent has accomplished, he certainly deserves a space on Mount Rushmore - home to the sculptures of America's four former presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

Burgum’s suggestion came on the heels of a bill introduced by Florida Rep Anna Paulina Luna in January, where she proposed the idea of adding Trump's face to the existing sculpture of the past four presidents.

During Saturday's episode of 'My View With Lara Trump', the commander-in-chief's daughter-in-law, asked Doug Burgum, "Will we ever see President Trump’s face on Mount Rushmore?"

"Well, they certainly have room for it there," replied the secretary of the interior, as per the Irish Star

Elsewhere in the interview, he also gushed about Trump’s efforts to celebrate America's 250th Independence Day in the grandest manner possible, and mentioned that an order has been signed for July 3, 2026, for fireworks at Mount Rushmore. He noted that numerous USA 250 events are also planned across the country.

Despite the National Park Service's declaration that there was no secure surface available on Mount Rushmore for carving, Rep Luna enthusiastically introduced the bill to add Trump’s face.

In her January bill, the 35-year-old argued that with his "remarkable accomplishments," Trump deserves the honor of being immortalized on the rocks. She added exuberantly, "Let's get carving!"

Internet fumes as Doug Burgum says there's room on Mount Rushmore to fit Donald Trump's face

Netizens weren't thrilled with the proposition that Donald Trump's face be carved at Mount Rushmore, as they boldly declared that it would create "a national treasure into a shrine for division."

One said, "No, just stop, leave Mt Rushmore alone," and another wrote, "If this happens, I will stop trusting history."

"Sure, let’s use our tax dollars to pay for this disgraceful action while denying parks funds to operate. Makes sense to me," a person remarked, whereas someone else added, "On the side facing Canada?"

"Can you imagine the nightmare of Donald Trump’s face chiseled into Mount Rushmore? From a symbol of unity to a MAGA monument—turning a national treasure into a shrine for division. Terrible, terrible, vomit-inducing idea," read another comment.

One more pointed out, "There’s literally not space. The rock has been deemed unstable for additional carvings for decades now," while another person argued, "If anybody should be on Mount Rushmore it’s JFK, not Trump."

"There are lots of places I would like to see Trump’s face. Mount Rushmore is not on the list," one stated.

"Nope. Thank God we will never see his ugly criminal mug on Mt. Rushmore. I'm always a bit surprised at how little research these people do when they come up with these weird, obsequious culty ideas. (Trump represents: no principles)," wrote an individual, adding a photo with details explaining why another president's face can't be added to the structure.
