NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Doug Emhoff, husband of former vice president Kamala Harris, became the latest target of online vitriol after posting a simple, affectionate selfie with his daughter, Ella, in New York City.

The image, which he shared on Elon Musk’s social media platform X with the caption “Great NYC day with Ella,” was met with a flood of attacks from right-wing users, including baseless conspiracy theories about Ella’s gender.

Rather than seeing the post for what it was. a proud father sharing a moment with his daughter, some users, many with pro-MAGA bios, took the opportunity to criticize Ella’s appearance and question Emhoff’s parenting.

Ella, Kamala Harris' stepdaughter, 25, is a model, fashion designer, and outspoken advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. She has used her platform to support causes like For the Gworls, which helps Black transgender individuals with rent and medical expenses, stances that have made her a frequent target of right-wing backlash.

The controversy comes as Emhoff transitions back to private law, joining Willkie Farr & Gallagher as a corporate crisis advisor following Harris’s unsuccessful presidential run.

Emhoff built a long career as a corporate attorney before transitioning to life in Washington. In 2000, he co-founded a boutique law firm, later selling it to Venable in 2006. He stayed with Venable until 2017 when he joined DLA Piper. By 2020, he stepped back from his legal practice entirely, aiming to sidestep any potential conflicts of interest after his wife took on the role of vice president.

As for what’s next for Harris, her post-political career remains uncertain.

Doug Emhoff, husband of former vice president Kamala Harris, found himself at the center of social media controversy after sharing what seemed like an innocent post. While his intent may have been lighthearted, critics wasted no time flooding the comments with jabs about his appearance and personal life.

One user wrote, "Why does she look more manly than you," while another added, "Two really weird-looking dudes." Others took aim at the image itself, with one commenting, "This photo is so cringe."

"You named your son Ella?" one person mocked. Another comment read, "Only a father could love a face like that."

"When last did she wash her hair?" a user said, while another wrote, "That’s a he."
