SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: A drag queen group has faced backlash for its allegedly controversial annual transgender Easter event, which encouraged attendees to dress in drag as “Hunky Jesus and Foxy Mary.”

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence held the event ‘No Easter without the T’ to honor “our trans brothers and sisters who are under siege” on Easter Sunday, as the Daily Mail reported, citing its organizers.

Contestant slams Donald Trump and his administration

Events like an Easter egg hunt, relay games, and storytimes were organized for children but contests like, the Hunky Jesus and Foxy Mary, featuring bikini-wearing Mother Marys, garnered all the attention.

A person named Cowboy Carter Jesus won one of the competitions and said, “If we were more like Jesus and less like Christian nationalists, our country wouldn’t be as f**ked up as it is now.”

He also stated, “Christ has been taken over by right-wing conservatives. The message they have is one of hate and intolerance. Jesus’ message is one of tolerance and acceptable for all people.”

Organizers want Americans ‘to wake up’

One of the organizers of the event, Sister Shalita Corndog, shared, “There is a full-on movement to erase trans people. This hatred is at a level equal or worse than that of the Third Reich.”

“Donald Trump and his administration are doing the same thing. We’re moments away from extermination camps. America needs to wake up,” Corndog added.

Besides, Sister T’aint A Virgin, a 46-year-old organizer, said, “10,000 people coming together in our park is a positive reflection of the work and commitment we all have.”

“I think of us as holy fools, bringing light and levity to often blasphemous or controversial topics,” Virgin claimed.

Critics call event ‘bigotry dressed in costume’

The event, known as the Out of the Darkness candlelight vigil and march, comes as currently 1.2 million people in the United States are living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which can eventually lead to AIDS. But many slammed the program with Libs of TikTok saying, “They literally say that their show is inappropriate for children while still encouraging children to attend,” as per Fox News Digital.

Logan Church, political director of CatholicVote, claimed, “The so-called 'Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence' have made it their mission to mock Christianity with open hostility, and this blasphemous Easter event is just the latest example.”

“This is not bold, it’s not brave, and it’s certainly not art. It's bigotry dressed in costume, and Americans are right to be outraged. Let’s be clear: Sacrilege is not a religion, and it is not protected under the banner of religious freedom,” he asserted.

Netizens decry ‘disgusting behavior’ by drag queen group

Also, many people shared their anger on X.

A user commented, “I am conservative. However, I do support freedom of speech. But these people should NOT aim at underage.”

Another user said, “Freedom of speech is important, but it comes with responsibility.  Is it okay for a stranger to tell an old woman, ‘You're ugly and have no right to live?’  Of course not, but freedom of speech allows such things.”

The third one shared, “I know it’s blasphemy, but we all have free will. So, I never really get upset about these things. I focus on what I want. And they’re going to get what they want. Or don’t know what they want. Sadly."

“Rest assured, God is not Mocked. They shall reap what they are sowing 10xfold,” a tweet read.

Another tweet read, “Disgusting behavior. Blasphemy to the 1000%. Can’t wait to see what God has in store. We know it’s the Lake of Fire which we shouldn’t want for anyone. It’s more tortuous and treacherous than we can even imagine but, it is the Righteous judgement of God.  Every knee shall bow.”

But the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is not taking a step back as Corndog added, “I am not going to lie and pretend Hunky Jesus is not blasphemous. But in that blasphemy is the mission of Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence – to expiate stigmatic and religious guilt. We use satire and humor to help show this.”
