‘Dream come true’: IndyCar fan praises Trump for making Freedom 250 Grand Prix happen
WASHINGTON, DC: An American IndyCar fan is celebrating President Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 Grand Prix, calling the Washington, DC, race a “dream come true” and one of the best ways to mark America’s 250th birthday.
The Freedom 250 Grand Prix, the first-ever NTT INDYCAR SERIES race on the National Mall, kicked off on Saturday, August 22, with the main event scheduled for Sunday.
IndyCar fan calls Trump-backed race a ‘dream come true’
The Freedom 250 Grand Prix is one of several special events being held to commemorate the United States’ 250th birthday, with Trump championing the race as part of the celebrations.
For one American IndyCar fan, the event is more than just another race.
Calling it a “dream come true,” the fan expressed gratitude to Trump for bringing the Grand Prix to Washington, DC, and said it would be a memorable way to celebrate the country’s historic birthday.
“This past year, with the UFC fight, fireworks, and now this on the mall, it's just the greatest way to celebrate American 250,” the fan said.

Freedom 250 Grand Prix promises a different kind of race
Trump signed an executive order in January establishing the Freedom 250 Grand Prix as a way to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and its history with motorsport.
The president has also described the event in typically big terms.
“This will be like no other race ever,” Trump said in July. “It’ll be one of the most unforgettable racing events the world has ever seen.”
“To be a new American citizen racing in my capital is amazing.”

Trump has long described himself as a racing fan. He attended the Daytona 500 last year and later hosted NASCAR and IndyCar drivers at the White House in April 2025.
The Grand Prix is part of a wider lineup of sporting events connected to the 250th anniversary, including the Patriot Games and the UFC Freedom 250 event held on the White House lawn.
Trump’s Freedom 250 Grand Prix has faced criticism
The race has not been without controversy.
Questions have been raised about possible disruptions to life in Washington, DC, as well as Trump’s ties to Penske, the transportation company sponsoring the event.

Still, the Trump administration has presented the Grand Prix as a major part of the country’s birthday celebrations.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has even compared the event with Washington’s early history, saying the capital had not seen a competition like it since Thomas Jefferson helped mark the country’s 25th birthday in 1801 with horse races.
