Elise Stefanik faces backlash as she slams New York’s judicial process after Donald Trump's conviction
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Elise Stefanik launched a blistering attack on New York’s judicial system following former President Donald Trump's conviction in the hush money case. Her remarks, delivered at the Faith and Freedom Conference on Friday, June 21, sparked significant controversy and backlash online.
Stefanik labeled New York’s judicial process as "corrupt to the core," asserting that Trump's conviction was the result of the "illegal weaponization of our courts" by radical district attorneys like Alvin Bragg, as per The Hill.

She accused Bragg of targeting Trump, whom she described as "Joe Biden’s chief political opponent," with the intention of influencing the 2024 election.
"We’re seeing the illegal weaponization of our courts and radical district attorneys like Alvin Bragg, going after Joe Biden’s chief political opponent, that is Donald J Trump," Stefanik expressed.
Trump was convicted last month on 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal alleged affairs during his 2016 campaign. The case, brought forward by Manhattan District Attorney Bragg, has been heavily criticized by Republicans, who argue it is an attempt to undermine Trump's political aspirations.
Stefanik reiterated these claims during her speech, describing the case as a form of "election interference" that was both "illegal" and "unconstitutional."
"We must do everything we can as the American people to make sure that we restore equal justice under the law, that we stand up against this radicalization, this corruption of our courts," she implored.
The New York congresswoman further criticized the jury selection process, alleging that it was manipulated to exclude Trump supporters.
"Think about this. It is so corrupt that in the jury selection process, the jurors were asked, 'Do you follow any social media accounts of President Donald J. Trump?' If any of them said yes, they were not allowed to serve on the jury. They were not asked that about Joe Biden. They jury shopped, and then they illegally judge shopped," Stefanik claimed.
She also attacked Judge Juan Merchan, who presided over Trump’s trial. Trump's defense team had attempted to have Merchan recuse himself, citing his daughter’s involvement with Democratic campaigns and his own minor donations to the Biden campaign and liberal groups before taking on the case.
"The fact that this is a judge that donated to Joe Biden, it is corrupt, corrupt to the core! We must save our country at the ballot box this November. It will be the American people that save our Constitution and save this country and fight back," Stefanik exclaimed.
Stefanik has been a staunch advocate for Trump on Capitol Hill and is considered a potential vice-presidential candidate.
