WASHINGTON, DC: Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated in an interview on Wednesday, May 15, that she 'would never recommend' that President Joe Biden debate former President Donald Trump before the 2024 presidential election.

She said this shortly after both agreed to two debates before November's election, as per The Hill.

Pelosi told CNN’s Manu Raju on Wednesday, "I myself would never recommend going on stage with Donald Trump. But the president has decided that’s what he wants to do. I think the format he is suggesting is a good one."

Nancy Pelosi states she 'would never recommend' a Biden-Trump debate

Before the election, Biden proposed that there be two presidential debates, and Trump agreed to participate.

In a contest that is traditionally early in the general election calendar, Trump and Biden will square off on stage for a CNN-hosted debate on June 27. They will then square off again on September 10 for an ABC-hosted debate.

Notably, it thrilled many Democrats to see Biden challenge Trump. The Hill was informed by sources close to the Biden campaign that the decision to hold the debate was a calculated tactic meant to guarantee that voters could compare the two contenders before beginning to form an opinion.

However, Pelosi raised concerns about some of Trump's past debate behavior, including an instance from 2016 in which Trump seemed to physically threaten Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, while she was on stage.

Trump reportedly interrupted Biden and the moderator over 100 times in their debate in 2020, as per reports at the time.

According to Raju, Pelosi responded to a question about why she would not advise Biden to face Trump in a debate, saying, "I think he was stalking Hillary Clinton, he wasn’t professional, he wasn’t presidential, he wasn’t meeting the dignity of the office."

Moreover, Pelosi recommended instead that town hall meetings be held by networks so that the candidates may address the American people directly.

She said, "I think you all should have separate town hall meetings with them, and let them, challenge them with questions about the future, and let the public make its decision."

Internet trolls Nancy Pelosi for saying she ‘would never recommend’ a Biden-Trump debate

Many internet users trolled Nancy Pelosi as she said that she 'would never recommend' that Joe Biden and Donald Trump share the debate platform.

A user wrote on social media platform X, "Biggest failure in history!", while another added, "She’s such a high-brow elitist snob."

A person also stated, "Daytime vodka drunk and hand waver", whereas one mentioned, "Biden is scared so he wants to change the rules."

A user wrote, "Well yeah. Pelosi is a National Socialist. We should not even have elections. The Party will decide our rights and our leaders. The people mean nothing", while another said, "They’ll jack up that old crook and throw a diaper on him."
