WASHINGTON, DC: Tech billionaire Elon Musk claimed behind-the-scenes "puppetmasters" were controlling the widespread protests against President Donald Trump over the weekend, after a viral video showed a protester struggling to explain why they considered the POTUS to be a fascist.

According to Fox News, more than 1,200 protests were held in the United States on Saturday, April 5, against the Trump administration over a lot of issues, including the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), reciprocal tariffs, federal layoffs, and immigration reform.

Musk himself, as well as his electric car company, Tesla, has been subjected to mass protests over the last few weeks as backlash for his work as the chair of DOGE. The impact has been severe for Musk, with the value of Tesla shares plummeting since January and some of the company's sites being vandalized.

Elon Musk retweeted a video on X on Sunday, April 6, writing in the caption, "The problem is the puppetmasters, not the puppets, as the latter have no idea why they are even there."

The video was recorded by MAGA political strategist Ted Goodman, who launched a livestream program with former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani the previous day in Washington.

The video shows Goodman (off camera) walking up to a protester who is carrying a sign that states, "The fascist Trump regime must go!"

When asked to explain the reason behind the sign, the person states, "He just does everything he wants… He's a convicted felon, you know, that's all I know."

Another protester at the site comes forward to back him up, saying, "One of the things is he's trying to control the media."

When Goodman suggested all presidents "try to control the narrative," the second protester continued, "They try to control their own narrative. But one of the things that Trump has done, for example, is the renaming the Gulf of Mexico and then not allowing the Associated Press to come into the White House."

When asked why they were there, the first protester noted that he was there simply because he "saw people were hanging out," while the other stated he was there to make his voice heard against "executive overreach".

Demonstrators who interacted with Fox News on Saturday were reportedly clear on why they were protesting against the Trump administration.

"(I'm) protesting how horrible things have become in our country... I mean, we've been taken over by a bunch of robber barons who are trying to take away all of our rights, benefits and liberty," said a demonstrator in New York, while another observed, "I am protesting what is happening with this blessed country, the democracy that was advanced democracy now in transition to a dictatorship, and we are almost in a fascist state right now – only because the rule of law is bending right now, and it may break."

Conservatives claim Hands Off! protesters were 'paid'

Right-wing supporters agreed with Elon Musk's tweet on "puppetmasters". The following posts demonstrate their takes.

"All of them are paid," wrote a user.

"They all got handouts explaining what they’re protesting," jibed another.

"They know why they’re there… to collect a paycheck," echoed yet another user.

"It’s all a fraud. And it’s being exposed," said one user.

"No brain cells to think for themselves," a comment read.
