WASHINGTON, DC: Elon Musk donated the maximum permissible amount of $6,600 to seven Republican members of Congress who have pushed back against judges impeding the functioning of President Donald Trump’s administration, The New York Times reported on Wednesday, March 19.

As chair of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk has spoken out against such judges himself. Earlier in the day, he retweeted a post on X (formerly Twitter) by conservative activist Charlie Kirk that referred to judges as "gavel-wielding dictators."

"This is a judicial coup," the tech billionaire wrote about a federal judge who ruled transgender people should be allowed to serve in the US military, against the recent directive of the Trump administration.

"We need 60 senators to impeach the judges and restore rule of the people," Musk added in his post.

Which GOP Congress members received donations from Elon Musk?

The seven Republican members of Congress to whom Elon Musk made donations include Representatives Eli Crane of Arizona, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Andy Ogles of Tennessee, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin, and Brandon Gill of Texas, and Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa.

Among them, Gill has filed articles of impeachment against US District Judge James Boasberg, who ordered the Trump administration to turn around a group of recent deportation flights to El Salvador.

The ruling was issued when Trump's invocation of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act for rapid deportations was challenged in court and subsequently ignored by the federal government.

On the other hand, Crane has called for the impeachment of a federal judge who stopped Musk’s DOGE from accessing Treasury Department data. He reportedly told the publication, "We didn’t do it so Elon Musk would give us a campaign donation. But I think it’s great that individuals like Elon are throwing support behind those of us willing to take action."

Trump himself has called out federal judges multiple times. On Tuesday, he slammed Boasberg on Truth Social, writing, "If a President doesn’t have the right to throw murderers, and other criminals, out of our Country because a Radical Left Lunatic Judge wants to assume the role of President, then our Country is in very big trouble, and destined to fail!"

Internet slams Elon Musk for making donations to members of Congress

Netizens were alarmed upon learning that Elon Musk donated to Republican members of Congress pushing back against judges who ruled against Donald Trump’s directives.

One wrote, "Bro is really trying to buy the whole government for himself," and another asked, "Isn’t this blatant corruption?"

A person said, "This should objectively frighten everyone," whereas someone else remarked, "Classic oligarch move."

"Most transparently corrupt administration ever," an individual stated, while another echoed, "@elonmusk is proving how easy it is to totally corrupt our government in plain sight."
