Elon Musk once called Diddy a 'good friend' after disgraced rapper invested in X: 'We text a lot'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Elon Musk allegedly boasted about his tight friendship with Sean "Diddy" Combs when the topic of racism on X (formerly Twitter) came up.
According to Radar Online, the world’s richest tech mogul once referred to the rapper — who is facing a mountain of serious charges — as a “good friend.” It’s a friendship that apparently went beyond just hanging out, considering Diddy even invested a cool $10 million in Musk’s Twitter takeover back in 2021.
According to the authors Kate Conger and Ryan Mac — who spilled all the tea in their new book titled 'Character Limit: How Elon Musk Destroyed Twitter' — the Tesla CEO didn’t just casually mention Diddy. He allegedly bragged about it to Revolt CEO Detavio Samuels when the topic of racism on Twitter (now X) came up after his takeover of the platform.
When Samuels raised concerns about how racism was being handled (or mishandled) on the site, Musk reportedly said, “I don’t know if you know this, but Puff is an investor in Twitter... You know, he’s a good friend of mine. We text a lot."
This all came out after Conger and Mac’s book hit the shelves, shedding light on Musk's acquisition of Twitter and how it’s been unfolding since his $44 billion purchase of the platform.
Where does Elon Musk fit into the Diddy scandal?
Here’s where things get even more complicated for both Elon Musk and Diddy. On October 1, prominent Texas attorney Tony Buzbee revealed that he’s representing 120 individuals who have filed complaints against Diddy.
And these aren’t just any complaints. Out of the 120, Buzbee said that 25 claimants are minors — with one shocking case allegedly involving a 9-year-old child. All the claims, according to the lawyer, have been corroborated and thoroughly vetted.
Following this revelation, the Daily Mail published an article summarizing the details of the press conference. In response, an X (formerly Twitter) user posted the headline of the article, which Musk quickly reposted and asked, “How many people in music & entertainment knew about this?”

It didn’t take long for some high-profile figures on the left to start calling out Musk for his connection to Diddy. Celebrities like Azealia Banks and Aubrey O'Day took to social media to voice their thoughts. O'Day threw some major shade at Musk, writing “Ask your friends, they will tell you."

This isn’t the first time Musk and Diddy have been publicly linked. According to Page Six, there are photos of the two hanging out at events, one notable instance being Dave Chapelle's 'Netflix Is a Joke Festival' in May 2022.
And let’s not forget that Diddy’s name came up on a list of investors who contributed to Musk’s $44 billion purchase of Twitter. However, as reported by AS, Diddy’s $10 million investment in the deal placed him on the same list as about 100 other shareholders.
Diddy is facing serious charges
Diddy is currently locked up in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, awaiting trial on some pretty serious charges. He’s been slapped with three federal counts -- racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, among others.
Prosecutors are accusing the music mogul of orchestrating drug-fueled parties what they’ve called "freak offs". The allegations are truly disturbing, with claims that Diddy used blackmail and violence to control his victims for years.
Despite pleading not guilty, Diddy’s chances of getting out on bail were shot down last month when Judge Andrew L Carter denied his bail request, citing that the disgraced rapper was both a danger to society and a flight risk.
Prosecutors even pointed out that Diddy had been tampering with legal proceedings, trying to contact witnesses and offering them compensation to support him. Even though his legal team offered up a strict bail package that included 24-hour monitoring of Diddy’s residence, the judge wasn’t convinced.
Diddy’s defense team put out a statement saying, "We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr Combs by the US Attorney's Office. Sean 'Diddy' Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children, and working to uplift the Black community."
