WASHINGTON, DC: Elon Musk has once again become the center of controversy, this time for sharing a photo of himself wearing an oversized 'Make America Great Again' (MAGA) hat while posing in the middle of the Oval Office.

The billionaire tech mogul posted the image late Friday, January 7, on his social media platform, X, and it quickly went viral. In the picture, Musk is seen beaming with a wide grin as he stands in front of President Donald Trump's desk.

Elon Musk's MAGA hat completely dwarfs his head

The massive MAGA hat, which completely dwarfs his head, has quickly become a focal point of online discussion. Social media users mocked the size of the hat and questioned the context behind the photo. Musk did not provide any explanation or background for the unusual image, leaving many puzzled.

Eagle-eyed users on X were quick to notice the intriguing details in the background of the photo, offering a rare glimpse into the revamped Oval Office. Notably, a replica of the football World Cup trophy is visible on a table behind Trump’s desk.

This has drawn attention as the US prepares to host the 2026 World Cup, with many seeing the trophy as a symbol of the upcoming event. Alongside the trophy, a handful of framed portraits can be seen.

Some social media users also pointed out a tiny object in the middle of the Resolute Desk, which they speculated could resemble one of the pagers Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently gifted Trump.

These pagers were reportedly used in a targeted attack to eliminate Hezbollah terrorists, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the image.

The photo follows a series of high-profile appearances by Musk near Trump. The billionaire has taken on a significant role in Trump’s administration, particularly as the head of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE, the New York Post reported.

The department's mission is to slash federal spending by as much as $2 trillion, a goal that has generated considerable attention.

Elon Musk’s MAGA hat photo sparks backlash on X

As soon as Elon Musk’s image with the giant MAGA hat hit X, users didn’t hold back in their response. The photo quickly became the subject of mockery, with many making light of the billionaire’s antics and the bizarre choice of headgear.

A user said, "This man is a literal child and it so so shocking that he is being allowed to dismantle this country from the inside out."

Another user added tagging President Trump, "This is what happens when you let children into the White House."

A third commented, "President Elon Musk in the Oval Office today wearing an oversized MAGA hat honoring Vice President Trump. A very corrupt team!"

"Did your brain shrink?" asked one.

A person said, "If the cap is too big, The grift’s just as rigged. If the hat doesn’t fit, You must quit. For DOGE you’re a no fit."

Another commented, "Looks like the Oval office is a big joke to him."

"ITS MARIO MUSK!!!!!!!" read a comment.

One X user asserted, "I just couldn’t believe he forgot his sink."
