WASHINGTON, DC: Elon Musk is once again fueling speculation about a months-old controversy that refuses to fade.

The billionaire entrepreneur, who briefly served as a special employee in the Trump White House, drew attention this week after posting a single word, “Hmm,” on X (formerly Twitter).

The post appeared alongside a Politico article revisiting claims of a physical altercation between then–Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and another senior official.

The timing reignited interest in Musk’s mysterious black eye, which he first displayed publicly during his final days at the White House in May. At the time, Musk brushed off the injury as the result of “horsing around” with one of his children, but media reports suggested a much more serious backstory involving an explosive confrontation.

According to multiple outlets, and later acknowledged by White House staff, Musk and Bessent engaged in a “screaming match” over internal policy disagreements.

Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon went further, alleging that Musk shoved Bessent first, prompting the Treasury chief to retaliate with a punch that left Musk visibly bruised.

Reactions on X were immediate. Far-right commentator Laura Loomer directly asked, “Did he hit you? We are all dying to know.”

“Is he the same fella who gave you the black eye?” one user asked.

“How can he get away with such hostility in Governmental administration. No consequence? So many levels of wrong. He should be removed from the administration,” another user wrote.

Another added, “Lmao. Elon knows. I am still furious about the administration treating you like they did. You were probably the most successful person in that room and they refused to listen to you.”

A user penned, “Well the truth is coming to light. Interesting And, if true, this is completely unacceptable and unprofessional behavior and needs to be addressed,” while another noted, “Wow! I did not expect to see that coming from Scott Bessent.”
