NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: As the year comes to an end, Variety has released a list of ‘The 100 Most-Watched Telecasts of 2023’. 56 of those slots were allocated to sports, out of which 45 were NFL games.

MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough, who hosts ‘Morning Joe’, also shared this article on X, formerly known as Twitter, and his focus remained on the NFL, much like several other people. However, Scarborough also shifted the attention to former President Donald Trump and his “call for a boycott of the NFL in 2020.”

Joe Scarborough claims ‘NFL’s dominance is unprecedented’

On X, MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough shared Variety’s listicle that focused on the most-watched telecasts of the year, as a glaring focus remained on the NFL.

In response to this article, Scarborough wrote, “The NFL’s dominance is unprecedented. 19 of top 20 most-watched Primetime shows were NFL games this year. 85 of top 100 most-viewed broadcasts also NFL games.”

The MSNBC anchor also noted with a subtle dig at former President Donald Trump, “Trump’s call for a boycott of the NFL in 2020 was yet another losing effort for him that year.”

In 2020, a report by The Guardian stated, “The NFL did the unthinkable: it gave Donald Trump the middle finger.”

This report shared details of how, after years of a “spineless policy of appeasement”, the NFL finally detached itself from Donald Trump and “his exploitation of the flag and military.”

Internet mocks Joe Scarborough’s post on X

After Joe Scarborough took to social media to take a dig at Donald Trump and his call to “boycott” the NFL, the internet’s response was prompt as they expressed their disappointment with the MSNBC anchor.

One user wrote, “Ummmm...2020 was nearly 4 years ago.” Another exasperated person added, “Good god give it a break - is everything linked to Trump?? Enough already."

"What's the point of this article. People will watched anything else beside 24/7 cable. We are sports fans not wannabe sports fans like you," wrote one user, and another said, "Give it a rest."

Scarborough continued to face mockery and ridicule on the social media platform as one more person said, "Does every single subject have to include a connection to Trump? If you can’t even talk @NFL

without him, get help…" and another commented, "Lol everything is about Trump you are so pathetic."
