WASHINGTON, DC: In a surprising turn of events, Ken Griffin, the founder and CEO of Citadel, voiced his confidence in former President Donald Trump's ability to secure victory over President Joe Biden in a hypothetical election scenario.

Despite previously criticizing Trump's bid for the White House, Griffin's recent statements indicate a shift in his perspective.

Ken Griffin's assessment of Donald Trump's potential victory

During an interview with CNBC's Sara Eisen on Tuesday, March 12, Griffin asserted his belief in Trump's electoral prowess. He confidently stated, "Right here? Right now? The election is tomorrow? He wins it."

"I think for investors, overall, a Trump Administration is good for our capital markets," Griffin told Eisen, but stopped short of officially endorsing Trump.

Griffin's remarks on Tuesday marked a departure from his earlier criticisms of Trump. In November 2022, the prominent GOP donor referred to Trump as a "three-time loser" and expressed hope that the Republican Party would move on from him.

Griffin cited Trump's defeat in the 2020 presidential election, the loss of two Georgia Senate seats in 2021, and the GOP's underwhelming performance in the 2022 midterm elections as reasons for his skepticism.

Despite previously praising Trump's primary rival, Nikki Haley, and contributing $5 million to a super PAC supporting her candidacy, Griffin's recent statements suggest a more tempered view of the former president.

"I'll give the president credit. He listened, he cared deeply about the American people, and he's very different in a small room with a small number of people," Griffin said. "He's very different than the person he's often personified by in the media or in the press. It's actually quite touching, to be blunt," Griffin added.

Social media reactions

Griffin's remarks sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many voicing optimism about Trump's potential return to the presidency.

"Every investor knows it - just saying the quiet part out loud," one posted on X.

"Damn right. Anything is better than blatant corruption," another wrote.

"Trump will be the greatest thing to ever happen to this economy," someone else gushed.

"Are people shocked thinking Trump will win???? I don’t get it," another chimed in.

Donald Trump's victory and the road ahead

Trump's recent victory in the GOP primary, securing wins in Georgia, Mississippi, and Washington state, has positioned him as the presumptive Republican nominee. However, his candidacy is overshadowed by ongoing legal challenges, including four separate criminal investigations and an impending trial scheduled to commence on March 25 in New York City.

Trump's candidacy sets the stage for a contentious general election campaign, with the former president facing off against President Joe Biden.

Despite Trump's lingering legal troubles and controversial rhetoric, he remains a formidable contender, with a significant portion of the American electorate viewing him favorably compared to Biden, per recent polling data furnished by the Associated Press.

The former President posted a video on Tuesday to mark his primary victory. “We now have to go on to victory because our country’s in serious trouble,” he said, pointing to the border crisis, the state of the economy, and declaring the US has “no respect on the world stage.”

“For this evening and for last week and for all the weeks before, for the tremendous success we’ve had in this primary, I want to thank everybody. But much more importantly, we have to get to work to beat Joe Biden, the worst administration, the worst president in the history of our country," he added.
