Fact Check: Did Arnold Schwarzenegger slam Trump, calling him a 'failed leader'?
WASHINGTON, DC: Amid the ongoing criticisms against President Donald Trump from Republicans, a rumor began circulating on social media platforms claiming that Hollywood actor and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger slammed Trump, calling him a failed leader, sparking speculations. Let us analyse and fact-check the claim.
Claim: Arnold Schwarzenegger called Trump a 'failed leader'
According to an X post, Schwarzenegger sharply criticized Trump, calling him a “failed leader” and predicting that history will judge his presidency negatively.
The post further states that Schwarzenegger said that Trump would be remembered as the worst president in US history and suggested that his legacy would quickly fade.
“You are a failed leader. History will record that you are the worst president in the history of America. But the good thing is that you will soon be forgotten, like an old tweet,” Schwarzenegger allegedly said.
Fact Check: Arnold Schwarzenegger made the remark in 2021
The claim is indeed true, as the former Republican Governor did say it. However, the statement is not recent but was made in 2021 following the siege of the US Capitol.
“We need to heal, together, from the drama of what has just happened,” Schwarzenegger said in a seven-and-a-half-minute video posted on Twitter. “We need to heal, not as Republicans or as Democrats, but as Americans.”
“President Trump sought to overturn the results of an election, of a fair election. He sought a coup by misleading people with lies,” he said, remembering his father, who was a member of the Nazi party in Germany. “My father and our neighbors were misled also with lies, and I know where such lies lead.”
He concluded by saying, “President Trump is a failed leader. He will go down in history as the worst President ever. The good thing is he will soon be as irrelevant as an old tweet.”
Donald Trump attacks Republican rebels
The remark resurfaced amid the growing tensions between Trump and the GOP.
After the House passed a Democratic-led resolution to end the war with Iran on Wednesday, June 3, Trump took to Truth Social to call out "4 bad" Republicans for voting in favour of the Democratic-led “meaningless” resolution.
The Iran War Powers Resolution was presented by Rep Gregory Meeks and passed 215-208, with four Republicans joining all Democrats in voting yes.
