LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After Dolly Parton’s death on August 25 at age 80, a claim about a private conversation between the country music icon and President Donald Trump has spread online. Trump allegedly said that Parton called him before her death and asked him to finish the White House ballroom project. Let's fact-check the claim.

Claim: Dolly Parton spoke with Trump before her death

The rumor originated from an X user who claimed that Donald Trump spoke with Dolly Parton before her death. The post stated, “JUST IN: Trump says Dolly Parton called him before she died and told him to finish the ballroom.”

Parton, the 80-year-old country music legend known for hits such as “Jolene” and her philanthropic work, died in Nashville after a brief battle with cancer.

The claim gained attention because Trump is currently pursuing a controversial $400 million ballroom project at the White House. The project would replace the East Wing and has faced criticism over its cost, funding and historic preservation concerns.

The post sparked skepticism among X users. One commenter wrote, “LOL I don't believe a word of that....... Like just he just wake up everyday with a new idea.” Another user said, “I can't believe it.” A third asked, “This is a joke right?”

Fact Check: The claim is false

The claim is false. The statement appears to be satirical and has no basis in any public comments from Trump. Trump did not say that Dolly Parton called him before her death or asked him to finish the White House ballroom. No credible news outlet, White House record, or statement from Trump supports the claim.

After Parton’s death was announced on August 25, 2026, Trump shared a tribute on Truth Social. He wrote, “Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will.”

Trump also honored Parton by announcing that the American flag would be lowered nationwide for a week. He wrote, “In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for one week beginning tonight at 6:00 PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you.”

Trump’s White House ballroom project is a real and controversial construction effort, but there is no documented connection between the project and Parton. Parton was also widely known for avoiding partisan politics.
