Fact Check: Did Donald Trump say he would bomb Norway if not awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize?

WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump announced last week that the US had carried out an airstrike in Iran, targeting and destroying key nuclear sites amid the Iran-Israel conflict. The move drew mixed reactions, with some praising the president and others strongly opposing his decision.
More recently, a rumor has been circulating online, claiming that Trump threatened to bomb Norway if he is not awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. But is there any truth to this claim? Let’s find out below.
Claim: Trump said he would bomb Norway if he is not awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize
A rumor began circulating online in late June 2025, alleging that President Donald Trump threatened to bomb Norway if he did not receive the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
The claim spread widely across social media platforms, including X and Facebook.
On June 26, a Facebook user posted, “Trump warns if he is not awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, he will bomb Norway.”
“The Hague (The Borowitz Report) — Raising eyebrows on the final day of the NATO summit, Donald J Trump said on June 25 that if he is not awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, he will bomb Norway,” the post added.
It further stated: “Warning Norway against ‘treating me very unfairly,’ Trump argued that he deserved the Peace Prize for ‘dropping a million bombs on Iran.’”

Fact Check: False, the post originated as a satire
The claim that Donald Trump threatened to bomb Norway if he did not receive the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize is false. According to Snopes, there is no evidence to support this statement, and no credible sources have reported any such remark from the president.
Extensive searches using terms like “Trump,” “bomb,” “Norway,” and “Nobel Peace Prize” yielded no results from legitimate news outlets confirming the claim. In fact, the rumor originated from The Borowitz Report, a satirical column created by comedian Andy Borowitz.

The About page of the website reads: “If you’re meeting me for the first time, I’m Andy Borowitz, a writer and comedian. I’ve been writing satirical news since I was eighteen.”
The satirical article at the center of the rumor was published on June 26, 2025, and carried the headline: “Trump Warns if He Does Not Win Nobel Peace Prize He Will Bomb Norway.”
Donald Trump’s allies think POTUS should get the Nobel Peace Prize after bombing Iran
President Trump's allies believe he should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize following the US airstrike on Iran carried out on June 22.
Trump has long expressed a desire to be recognized as a global peacemaker and has frequently criticized the Nobel Committee for awarding the prize to former President Barack Obama in 2009, according to Rolling Stone. Trump recently revisited the issue while announcing a peace deal between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda.

He wrote on Truth Social, "I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for this, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between India and Pakistan, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between Serbia and Kosovo, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for keeping Peace between Egypt and Ethiopia."
Following the US strike on Iran, Trump announced a peace agreement between Israel and Iran — though the cease-fire quickly collapsed, with both nations resuming hostilities.
Despite this, Trump and his allies insist he has helped broker historic peace in the region.

Speaking to Fox News last week, Senator Katie Britt declared, “President Trump is going to win the Nobel Peace Prize, no doubt,” adding that he has “brought peace to a region that needed stability.”
Likewise, Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks stated that Trump “deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.”
Rep Buddy Carter echoed that sentiment, writing that Trump “deserves the peace prize now more than ever” and formally nominated him for the award on June 24.
