IRAN, TEHRAN: Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has not made a single public appearance since assuming power in March 2026, fueling widespread speculation about his health and safety. Now, a video circulating widely on social media claims to show him walking into a high-tech command center, with a large image of Israel’s Dimona nuclear reactor displayed prominently. But is the footage real?

Claim: Iran has released a new video of Mojtaba Khamenei

TEHRAN, IRAN - MARCH 9: A demonstrator holds a picture of Iran's new Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei during a rally in support of the new Supreme Leader at Enghelab Square on March 9, 2026 in Tehran, Iran. The United States and Israel continued their joint attack on Iran that began on February 28. Iran retaliated by firing waves of missiles and drones at Israel, and targeting U.S. allies in the region. An X user, GBX_Press, claimed that Iran had released a new video of Mojtaba Khamenei. The post, labeled “Breaking News,” said the video showed Iran’s Supreme Leader heading to a military operations room.

It also claimed, "Iran releases a new video showing for the first time Mojtaba Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, on his way to the military operations room."

Within hours of being posted, the video gained over 2.5 million views, drawing thousands of comments. Many users questioned whether the video was real, with several suggesting it could be AI-generated. Others believed it was real and criticized Iran’s Supreme Leader for staying out of public view since March.

The clip comes at a time of rising tensions in the region due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. The presence of imagery linked to Israel’s Dimona nuclear reactor, especially with visible coordinates, has further fueled speculation about possible military escalation.

Fact Check: False, Mojtaba Khamenei has not made any public appearances since March 2026

A video claiming to show Mojtaba Khamenei walking into a command center went viral, but investigations show it is not real and has no official confirmation. Grok, an open-source intelligence platform, has debunked the video as AI-generated, and no credible sources confirm its authenticity. "The video is AI-generated, not official Iranian footage, and does not show real events involving Mojtaba Khamenei. Iran's first public video of him was in March 2026."

Iranian state media outlets, including IRNA, IRIB, and Tasnim News Agency, have not released or reported the video. Major international news organizations like Reuters, BBC, and CNN have not confirmed any public appearance or video of Mojtaba Khamenei.

Since reportedly succeeding his father, Ali Khamenei, earlier in 2026, Mojtaba Khamenei has made no verified public appearances and has issued only written statements. Analysis from Grok shows the video contains several signs of artificial manipulation. Frame-by-frame reviews suggest parts of the footage were taken from older recordings of Ali Khamenei and digitally altered to create a new setting.

The video also shows visual errors, including blurred faces, unnatural lighting, and glitchy transitions, all common signs of AI-generated or heavily edited content.
