TEHRAN, IRAN: Amid escalating tensions involving the United States, Iran, and Israel, a viral claim alleging that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps is preparing to test a ballistic missile with a 2,485-mile (4,000 km) range has sparked widespread attention.

This comes after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly stated that Iran had launched a long-range missile capable of traveling about 2,485 miles (4,000 km) for the first time amid the ongoing conflict.

Claim: IRGC announced Iran will soon test a 2,485-mile-range missile

A post on X (formerly Twitter) from the account @IRGC_NEWS states that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps will soon test a ballistic missile with a range of 2,485 miles. The claim circulated alongside footage showing Iranian military missile transporters and troops in parade formations.

The claim comes amid heightened regional scrutiny of Iran’s missile program and follows reports of a March 2026 missile attempt targeting Diego Garcia, which is roughly 2,485 miles from Iran and has been cited as evidence of extended strike capability beyond Tehran’s previously stated 1,243-mile (2,000-kilometer) range limit.

The narrative gained further attention after the IDF stated that Iran had, for the first time, launched a long-range missile capable of traveling about 2,485 kilometers. The IDF also recalled that during Operation Rising Lion, it had warned Iran was developing missiles with a 2,485-mile range, which it said could potentially place dozens of countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa within reach.

Fact Check: The claim that Iran will soon test a 2,485-mile-range ballistic missile is false

Although the video gained significant traction on X, with numerous users commenting and sharing it, the claim that Iran will soon test a 2,485-mile-range ballistic missile is unverified and considered false based on available evidence.

First, the video did not originate from any official or verified account on X. Several users also dismissed it as AI-generated propaganda or unverified content, pointing out its reliance on generic stock footage and the absence of any confirmation from Iranian official sources.

Notably, the post itself included a label stating “Made with AI,” further raising doubts about its authenticity. In addition, the account that shared the claim describes itself in its bio as “a documentary platform monitoring field developments and military statements” and explicitly states that it is not affiliated with any "official entity," indicating it is not a credible or authoritative source.

It is also important to note that Iran has not officially announced or confirmed the development or testing of any  2,485-mile-range ballistic missile.

However, some defense analysts suggest that the reported developments, if real, could relate to an advanced intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) or a modified version of existing systems. IRBMs typically have ranges between 1,864 and 3,417 miles (3,000 and 5,500 kilometers), which would theoretically place strategic locations such as Diego Garcia within reach if such capabilities are achieved.

However, these claims remain unconfirmed, and there is no official verification of a fully operational 2,485-mile-range missile system.
