WASHINGTON, DC: As Texas' closely watched Senate race heats up, Democratic candidate James Talarico has become the target of a new viral claim circulating on social media.

An X (formerly Twitter) user alleged that Talarico spent three years in school pretending to be a girl named "Jeannine" and later tried to seal records related to the incident, linking the accusation to his support for gender-related policies. The claim has sparked debate online, so let's fact-check it.

Claim: James Talarico pretended to be a girl named 'Jeannine' from 6th through 9th grade

The X post accusing James Talarico of pretending to be a girl named "Jeannine" during his school years began, "JAMES TALARICO — THE DERANGED TEXAS LEFTIST FREAK — SPENT THREE FULL YEARS IN SCHOOL PRETENDING TO BE A GIRL NAMED 'JEANNINE' BEFORE TRYING TO SUE THE SCHOOL TO SEAL THE RECORDS!"

The post went on to allege, "From 6th through 9th grade, this vegan gender weirdo went full 'Jeannine' Talarico mode at a small K-12 outside Austin. Multiple verified classmates just dropped the receipts."

It further claimed, "When the truth started leaking out, the little cross-dressing b***h tried to legally bury it like the pathetic fraud he is."

The author also attempted to link the allegation to Talarico's political positions, writing, "This is the same radical soy boy now pushing every insane gender ideology on kids while hiding his own twisted past."

The post concluded with additional attacks, stating, "No wonder he’s such a deranged Democrat — the guy’s entire personality is built on mental illness and deception." Its final line read, "The Democrats really scraped the bottom of the barrel with this one."

The post generated significant discussion online, with many users reacting to and debating the allegations against Talarico.

Fact Check: No evidence supports claims that James Talarico pretended to be a girl

The claim that James Talarico pretended to be a girl named "Jeannine" while attending middle school is false. No credible evidence supports the allegation. The rumor appears to have originated from partisan social media posts that circulated in late May 2026 during the Texas Senate race.

The story can be traced to anonymous or satirical Facebook pages, including those affiliated with "America's Last Line of Defense" (ALLOD), which claimed to have received "five verified reports from former classmates."

However, the posts provided no names, documents, photographs, court records, or other verifiable evidence to support the allegation. They also relied heavily on inflammatory language, such as "vegan gender weirdo," a hallmark of partisan meme content rather than factual reporting.

Public-record searches uncovered no court filings involving a name change, requests to seal gender-related records, or lawsuits filed by Talarico against a school district. In addition, no mainstream news organizations across the political spectrum have reported the claim or presented evidence supporting it.

Available information about Talarico's background also contradicts the allegation. He attended schools in the Round Rock Independent School District and graduated from McNeil High School, a public high school in Texas, not the small private K-12 school described in the viral posts.

Furthermore, no named witnesses or former classmates have publicly come forward with verifiable accounts supporting the claim. Given the complete lack of evidence and the contradictions in the available record, the allegation is false.
