WASHINGTON, DC: A viral claim alleges that Senator John Fetterman directly told Barack Obama, “I don’t work for you,” after Obama reportedly offered weekly policy guidance to Democrats on Capitol Hill.

The claim has circulated amid ongoing conservative discussions about former President Obama’s political influence and broader “shadow government” theories.

It also portrays Fetterman as an independent voice within the Democratic Party, highlighting his recent breaks with progressive positions on issues such as immigration and Israel.

The post claimed, "The Pennsylvania senator expressed that he found these sessions offensive because his loyalty belongs to the voters who elected him."

It further alleged, "Fetterman noted that Obama has conducted these weekly meetings since he joined the Senate. He argued that such influence from a former president does not align with how a constitutional republic should function."

The post concluded, "Fetterman emphasized that elected officials must answer to their constituents rather than any past leader or party network."

It has since gained traction online, reportedly receiving over 175,000 views, 1,000 comments, and 9,600 likes.

The claim that Fetterman told Obama, “I don’t work for you," is false. It is an unsubstantiated viral rumor that began circulating on social media around April 20, 2026, with no supporting evidence.

There are no verified quotes, interviews, videos, or official statements from Fetterman confirming such an exchange, and no credible news reporting has documented it.

A review of public records, news archives, and Fetterman’s recent statements shows no reference to this alleged incident.

While Fetterman has publicly broken with some Democratic Party positions on issues such as Israel, immigration, and healthcare policy, he has not described any such interaction with Obama.

Additionally, major news outlets across the political spectrum have not reported any pattern of Obama holding regular “weekly policy guidance” sessions with Senate Democrats.

While Obama has occasionally met with or addressed Democratic lawmakers, there is no evidence of the structured, ongoing meetings described in the claim.
