WASHINGTON, DC: A viral claim alleges that Senator John Fetterman directly told Barack Obama, “I don’t work for you,” after Obama reportedly offered weekly policy guidance to Democrats on Capitol Hill.

The claim has circulated amid ongoing conservative discussions about former President Obama’s political influence and broader “shadow government” theories.

It also portrays Fetterman as an independent voice within the Democratic Party, highlighting his recent breaks with progressive positions on issues such as immigration and Israel.

According to an X post by @gigabeers, a claim circulated alleging that John Fetterman told former President Barack Obama that he “does not work for him,” following reports that Obama had been giving weekly policy guidance to Democrats on Capitol Hill.

"Senator John Fetterman revealed that he directly told former President Barack Obama he does not work for him. Obama had been visiting Capitol Hill regularly to deliver policy guidance to Democrats according to Fetterman."

It further alleged, "Fetterman noted that Obama has conducted these weekly meetings since he joined the Senate. He argued that such influence from a former president does not align with how a constitutional republic should function."

The post concluded, "Fetterman emphasized that elected officials must answer to their constituents rather than any past leader or party network."

It has since gained traction online, reportedly receiving over 175,000 views, 1,000 comments, and 9,600 likes.

Fact Check: John Fetterman’s quote about Obama is false
