Fact Check: Did John Kennedy argue with Hillary Clinton during Senate hearing in 2025?
WASHINGTON, DC: A viral social media post on November 10, 2025, claimed that Republican Sen John Kennedy of Louisiana had embarrassed the Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in a Senate hearing after she tried to "silence" him.
But how much truth does this claim hold? Let’s find out.
Claim: John Kennedy argued with Hillary Clinton during Senate hearing in 2025
An online rumor that began spreading in early November 2025 alleged that Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana had publicly embarrassed Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton during a Senate hearing.
The rumor specifically claimed this happened after Clinton supposedly attempted to "silence" the Senator.
Notably, the story was shared by a user on November 10 to a Facebook page with the name David Attenborough Fans (achieved).
The post, which showed pictures of Clinton and Kennedy speaking, opened with the following: "Hillary Clinton Tries to Silence Senator Kennedy – What Happens Next Will Shock You" The tension in the chamber was palpable even before Hillary Clinton sat down. Her voice was icy as she leaned into the microphone, telling Senator Kennedy that his questions were "outside this committee."
In addition to the David Attenborough Fans page, similar claims were also shared by users on other Facebook pages and on YouTube.
Many of these posts included links in the top comments directing users to articles hosted on WordPress blogs. One specific example mentioned an article that was allegedly written by an author named Cristiano Messi.
Fact check: John Kennedy did not argue with Hillary Clinton during Senate hearing in 2025
Various searches of major search engines, including Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google, and Yahoo, did not document any news media reports on any such argument between Sen. Kennedy and Hillary Clinton.
There was also no evidence to suggest that Clinton had recently testified before a Senate committee. The rumored fight, if it had actually occurred, would certainly have been documented by major news outlets, given the high profile Clinton has in American politics.
From AOC to Clinton, John Kennedy's recurring involvement in fake news
This is not the first time that Republican Sen Kennedy has been at the center of fabricated online content. A prior viral rumor, again in November, falsely claimed Kennedy had "executed" Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other Democratic leadership on a live C-SPAN broadcast.
The hoax claimed Kennedy lectured them on a made-up "$93 trillion Green New Deal 2.0," using sensational language to describe the scene, such as the "Chamber went funeral-quiet."
Fact-checkers verified it was completely fabricated, as there was no C-SPAN video, no such remarks were said, no policy debate, and none of the specific assertions about the politicians' finances were supported, all of which hinted that the story was fabricated with AI's help.
