FRANKFORT, ILLINOIS: A viral post claims that the Lindsay Clancy trial influenced an Illinois mother accused of killing her 2-year-old son. Prosecutors say the mother closely followed Clancy’s case and discussed it shortly before her son’s death. Several commenters have questioned whether the connection is real and whether the trial actually influenced her actions. Here’s what recent court records and reports show.

Claim: Lindsay Clancy trial influenced an Illinois mother

The rumor originated with an X user named RAWSALERTS, who posted about the charges against an Illinois mother.

The post claimed that an Illinois mother accused of killing her 2-year-old son called him the “anti-Christ” and that prosecutors said she had closely followed the Lindsay Clancy trial before the killing.

The post quickly attracted attention, and several users questioned whether the claim was real. One user asked, “Is this real?” Another asked for a source, while a third requested more details about the Illinois case.

Another X user made a similar claim, saying that an Illinois woman who was “very interested” in the Lindsay Clancy trial allegedly killed her son.

The post identified the child as 2-year-old Barrett Walsh and his mother as Corie Walsh.  The post also said a witness described Walsh as “very interested” in the Clancy trial and ended with a critical comment about the “female true crime cult.”

These posts led people online to believe that the Illinois mother was influenced by Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial.

Fact Check: The claim is misleading

The claim is misleading. Court documents and prosecutors confirm that Corie Walsh closely followed the Lindsay Clancy trial and discussed the case shortly before her son’s death.

However, available reports do not show that the trial caused or directly influenced Walsh to kill her son. The connection remains an allegation or inference, not a fact.

The killing shocked the quiet, affluent village of Frankfort, Illinois, about 35 miles southwest of Chicago. Earlier this week, authorities found 2-year-old Barrett Walsh hanging in the basement.

They also found his mother, 40-year-old Corie A Walsh, in a bathtub in what appeared to be a suicide attempt. Police charged Walsh with three counts of first-degree murder on Friday, September 4.

Prosecutors said Walsh had “recently become very invested in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial” before the killing. They made the statement in a petition asking the court to deny her pretrial release.

Clancy faced charges in the deaths of her three children in January 2023. Her case has received national attention in recent weeks as the trial was livestreamed. The trial ended in a mistrial on Friday.
