The reports spread alongside a RetroNewsNow video clip showing Richie performing 'All Night Long,' a song released 43 years earlier on August 31.
Several social media posts connected the video to reports about the 77-year-old singer’s hospitalization and suggested that something serious happened during the performance.
One X post wrote, “Richie, 77 Falling Ill Lionel Richie,” while another claimed, “Lionel Richie was singing ‘All Night Long’ when he collapsed.” The posts quickly fueled speculation about what happened on stage before his hospitalization.
Fact Check: The claim is false
The claim is false. Lionel Richie performed “All Night Long” during his August 29, 2026, concert at The Muny in St Louis while experiencing a health issue.
Near the end of the show, Richie asked for a stool or chair and completed the final song while seated. Witnesses said he appeared to struggle toward the end of the performance. However, available reports do not show that he collapsed on stage.
Richie did not fall, abruptly stop the song, or collapse during the performance. Instead, he asked to sit down, finished 'All Night Long,' and completed the show.
This incident differs from a June 2026 concert in St Paul, Minnesota, when Richie reportedly felt dizzy while performing 'Dancing on the Ceiling.' He sat down, performed one more song, and then ended the concert early.
After the St Louis performance, Richie checked himself into a local hospital, where doctors kept him under ICU observation as a precaution and conducted tests. Reports said doctors were investigating possible dehydration.
