WASHINGTON, DC: A rumor circulated online in March claiming that actor Matthew McConaughey broadcast live from his home about the Epstein files, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and President Donald Trump.
As per the rumor, McConaughey broadcast live from his home to tell billions of viewers 'the truth' in a 'video exposing the dark side of power.' But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.
Claim: Matthew McConaughey hosted livestream about Epstein files, Bondi, and Trump
According to images appearing in a Facebook post that spread the rumor, McConaughey's broadcast pertained to federal case files for disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, Donald Trump, Pam Bondi, and the late Virginia Giuffre, an Epstein victim.
The Facebook post from March 23 read, "When television is gagged, Matthew McConaughey chooses to broadcast the truth from his own home — just hours after the livestream, the video exposing the dark side of power exploded to 3.2 billion views worldwide."
The Facebook post included a collage of images showing Epstein, Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, and Giuffre.
Moreover, an image supposedly depicted McConaughey broadcasting with headphones, flanked by monitors showing Bondi and a woman resembling Giuffre with bruises on her face. The post also contained an external link leading to a blog article.
The claim also appeared on other social media platforms, such as Threads and Truth Social.
Fact Check: False, viral story is fictional
The claim made in the viral social media posts is false, as there is no credible evidence from reliable sources to prove that Matthew McConaughey broadcast live from his home about the Epstein files, Pam Bondi, and Donald Trump.
Searches on search engines, such as Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google, and Yahoo, led to no reputable news reports covering any such story. Moreover, McConaughey also did not post any such video on his active YouTube channel.
The Facebook user who made the post, Carl Paoli, informed Snopes that his Facebook page got hacked and "hasn't been able to get it back". A scan of Paoli's Facebook post's text with the GPTZero text-detection tool found a 95% likelihood of AI.
Furthermore, the collage in the Facebook post showed facial abnormalities consistent with AI-manipulating tools, including depictions of the Trumps, Epstein, Maxwell, Giuffre, and Bondi.
