WASHINGTON, DC: A social media post claimed that House Speaker Mike Johnson has moved Texas Democratic Rep Jasmine Crockett’s office to a filing room with no windows after she interrupted members in the House. The claim has given rise to mockery and speculation about its authenticity.

According to a viral X post, Crockett refused to stop interrupting House members using their allocated time on the House floor, despite constant warnings from the Speaker, after which Johnson moved her office to a filing room with no windows in the basement of the Rayburn Building for the duration of her term.

The post also stated that Johnson refused to hear her objections.

The post has spread on Facebook and X, collectively garnering hundreds of thousands of views as of this writing, with many believing the claim to be true, while a few others called for a fact check.

Fact Check: The claim originated from a satire account

The claim, however, is fake and fabricated, as there are no reports of such an incident happening at the House.

If the claim were true, it would have sparked a major debate and controversy, with major news media outlets widely covering it and making headlines.

But a search on Google yielded no official reports or statements from any of the House members about the alleged incident involving the Speaker and the congresswoman.

Moreover, the claim was posted by an X account called ‘John McAfee News,’ which, though not explicitly a parody account, has posted several such fake and exaggerated claims for the sake of engagement.

A Google search for the claim also revealed that the claim originated from a popular Facebook parody called ‘America’s Last Line Of Defense.’

The claim surfaced after Johnson recently said that some White House staffers view his close relationship with President Donald Trump as a partnership beyond his formal House role.

“Some on his staff have said, ‘No, it’s really like you’re co-president.’ Because the president and I speak all the time,” Johnson said in an interview with NOTUS, published Monday, August 24.

“I intend to be the Speaker going forward,” Johnson said, dismissing the idea about considering another leadership role. 

When asked about pressure from his own members, the Speaker said, “I don’t get my feelings hurt. I never do. With leadership comes attacks and, you know, defamatory remarks and all. That’s just part of the job. You’re going to be criticized no matter what you do.”
