WASHINGTON, DC: Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett has ignited a backlash after her recent remark on the daytime talk show ‘Sherri’ with Sherri Shepherd.

In the latest episode, released Wednesday, April 29, Crockett said she faces hate for being a Black woman despite being among the 535 most powerful people in the country.

Jasmine Crockett calls out people for disrespecting her

The interview unfolded in a light, conversational tone, marked by humor and occasional sarcasm. However, some social media users accused her of portraying herself as a victim after she spoke about facing disrespect as a Black woman.

She emphasized that she is often perceived first as a Black woman, despite being among the most powerful figures in the country.

“The level of disrespect that is continuously lobbed against us as Black women… I am one of the 535 most powerful people in this country,” Crockett said.

“And for some reason, you think we on the same level, but you gonna disrespect me,” Crockett said during a conversation with host Sherri.

Social media users blasts Jasmine Crockett

After a portion of the interview went viral on social media, users lashed out at her. Some took a dig, saying that she ‘was’ powerful, while others called her of playing victim and mocked that she was not powerful.

Resharing the clip on X, a user said, “Saying you’re one of the 535 most powerful people in America because you’re in Congress is one of funniest things I’ve ever heard in my life.”

Another wrote, “Jasmine somehow managed to present herself as both a victim and one of the most powerful figures in the country within two sentences.”

Another user commented, "So, she's the 535th most powerful person in this country. Not for long!"

“Texas didn't dump you because you are black.  We trashed you because you are a racist idiot.  You _were_ powerful.  Now you are nothing,” one more said.

One user appeared to predict that she would lose her ‘power’ because people no longer liked her. “Her power is derived from the people. She won't have that much longer.”

Many users in the comment section expressed criticism, as one commented, “We’re definitely not on the same level. She is very, very, very far below me.”

During the interview, Crockett also discussed her approach to governance, plans, and personal preferences in a lighter segment with the host.
