Recently, a rumor circulated online claiming that the people in Minnesota who were protesting the killing of Renee Good by an ICE agent demanded higher wages for protesting. But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.
Claim: Minnesotans protesting killing of Renee Good demand 'higher wages'?
The claim originated from a Facebook post where the caption read, "We deserve fair pay!" The post also linked to a story from The Babylon Bee.
The story read, "Protesters hard at work sowing chaos in the city because of ICE raids and the death of Renee Good have reportedly transitioned over to protesting for a higher protesting wage."
"'Protesting is hard. You have to make clever signs and chant and stuff', said Sheila Cotton, a middle-aged white woman with two trans babies at home. 'We deserve fair pay!'," the story added.
The viral post has garnered significant interaction, with more than 65k people reacting to it, and around 14k people sharing the post on the platform.
False: No credible evidence to back the claim
The claims made in the online rumor are false, as there is no credible evidence to prove that people demanded higher wages for protesting the killing of Renee Nicole Good.
A search of the keywords 'Minnesota protesters demanding higher wages' showed results with unverified claims about paid protesters. However, results did not indicate protesters publicly called for 'higher wages'.
Moreover, the rumor about paid protesters demanding higher wages originated with The Babylon Bee. It is a popular Christian site that describes its output as humorous or satirical in nature, according to Snopes.

ICE agent wounded in Renee Good shooting treated for torso bleeding
The ICE agent who fatally shot Renee Nicole Good suffered internal bleeding in his torso, the Department of Homeland Security stated. DHS confirmed the injury on Wednesday, January 14, but did not disclose the severity.
Jonathan Ross, a 10-year ICE veteran, sustained internal bleeding to his torso during the January 7 incident, multiple US officials familiar with his medical condition told ABC News.

Meanwhile, the extent of the bleeding had not been made public, and DHS had not responded to additional requests for details. Video from the scene showed Ross walking away shortly after the shooting.
Earlier in January, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem acknowledged that Ross was transported to a hospital following the incident and discharged later that day.
