Fact Check: Did Thomas Massie receive Jeffrey Epstein's 'complete files' on a flash drive?
WASHINGTON, DC: A viral social media post claims Rep Thomas Massie revealed that he received a flash drive containing Jeffrey Epstein's complete files, including the names of billionaires, campaign donors, politicians, and world leaders. The post also alleges the media is suppressing the information because it implicates powerful figures and claims Epstein was part of a larger intelligence-backed blackmail network.
The allegations have spread widely across social media, prompting questions about whether Massie actually made the statements attributed to him or claimed to possess secret Epstein-related records.
Claim: Thomas Massie received Jeffrey Epstein's 'complete files' on a flash drive
The rumor originated from a viral social media post that attributed a lengthy statement to US Rep. Thomas Massie.
The post quoted Massie as saying: "Last night I received a flash drive containing the complete list of files belonging to Jeffrey Epstein. Everything is there: every billionaire, every campaign donor, every single person. Now let me explain why you haven't heard anything about this in the media. Because they're all in there. They will do everything to prevent these documents from being made public."
The post went on to attribute additional claims to Massie, alleging that "Epstein was an intelligence asset. He was part of a blackmail operation used to control billionaires, politicians, and world leaders." It further claimed that if the files were ever released, "the system as we know it will collapse," and concluded with the statement, "The public has the right to know the truth, and I am not afraid to share it."
Fact Check: Viral claim about Thomas Massie and Epstein's files is fabricated
The claim circulating online is fabricated. A Community Note attached to the viral post states, "The quoted statement from Rep. Thomas Massie is fabricated; he has denied receiving a flash drive with Epstein files, calling the rumor 'fake news.'"
The viral post falsely attributes a quote to Massie claiming he received a flash drive containing Jeffrey Epstein's complete files, including the names of billionaires, campaign donors, politicians, and other influential figures. It also falsely claims that Massie described Epstein as an intelligence asset who operated a blackmail network and warned that releasing the files would bring down the system.
Massie has explicitly denied making these statements. He told fact-checkers, including Snopes, that the quote is "fake news," adding that he has never received such a flash drive and never made the remarks attributed to him.
Massie has, however, publicly advocated for greater transparency in the Epstein case. Along with Rep. Ro Khanna, he co-sponsored the Epstein Files Transparency Act (EFTA), which seeks the release of Justice Department records related to Epstein.
In February 2026, Massie also reviewed unredacted DOJ files and publicly raised concerns about excessive redactions, saying some names appeared to have been unnecessarily withheld.
Although Massie has repeatedly called for the full release of Epstein-related records and greater accountability, he has never claimed to possess a secret archive or a flash drive containing Epstein's complete files.
