Fact Check: Did Trump aide Katie Miller post a Greenland map with US flag captioned 'SOON'?
WASHINGTON, DC: Shortly after US forces captured President Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela, a social media post began circulating online.
The image showed Greenland with a US flag placed over it and the word “SOON” underneath, allegedly posted by Trump administration aide Katie Miller. The post sparked speculation, with users suggesting it hinted at a potential move involving Greenland, which is part of Denmark.
Claim: Katie Miller posted Greenland map with US flag and 'SOON'
Katie Miller, a former White House adviser and the wife of senior White House adviser Stephen Miller, posted a map of Greenland overlaid with the US flag and captioned with the word “SOON” following the January 2026 US military operation in Venezuela.
Miller appears to have shared the post shortly after the operation took place. The claim spread across X, Reddit, and Instagram.
The image did not include any direct commentary outlining specific policy or plans. Instead, it relied on symbolism and timing, appearing as global attention was focused on US foreign policy following the dramatic events in Venezuela.
Fact Check: True, Katie Miller did post the 'SOON' Greenland image on X
According to Snopes, the Greenland image featuring the US flag and the word “SOON” was genuinely posted by Katie Miller on X. Miller shared the map on January 3, 2026, less than 24 hours after news broke of the US operation in Venezuela.
Denmark’s ambassador to the United States, Jesper Moller Sorensen, responded to the post, pointing out that Greenland belongs to the Kingdom of Denmark. He said both Denmark and the United States value their long-standing defense and security partnership, particularly through NATO.
Just a friendly reminder about the US and the Kingdom of Denmark: We are close allies and should continue to work together as such. US security is also Greenland’s and Denmark’s security. Greenland is already part of NATO. The Kingdom of Denmark and the United States work… https://t.co/CboKnlKgJL

Sorensen stressed that respecting each other’s borders is essential and that symbolic gestures should not undermine trust between diplomats.
He concluded by saying, "And yes, we expect full respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark." Miller did not directly respond to Sørensen’s post.
The day after Katie’s post, Trump told reporters that the US “needs” Greenland.
On January 5, Stephen Miller, Katie’s husband and one of Trump’s top advisers, appeared on CNN with Jake Tapper. About eight minutes into the interview, Tapper raised Katie’s Greenland post and pressed Stephen on whether he would rule out the idea of the United States taking Greenland by force.
TAPPER: Can you rule out that the US is going to take Greenland by force?

STEPHEN MILLER: Greenland should be part of the US. By what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland? The US is the power of NATO.
TAPPER: So you can't take military force off the table?

On January 6, Katie Miller again referenced the Trump administration’s desire to annex Greenland on X by quoting a Trump post on the issue from his first administration.
Katie Miller’s “SOON” post showing Greenland in US flag colors is a real social media message shared by her.
