Fact Check: Did Trump say he will ‘hit Iran hard tonight’ in social media post?
WASHINGTON, DC: Amid the renewed tensions in the Middle East following the strikes between the United States and Iran, a rumor began circulating on social media platforms claiming to show a social media post by President Donald Trump in which he says that he’ll hit Iran harder tonight, sparking concerns. Let us analyse and fact-check the post’s authenticity.
Claim: Donald Trump says he'll hit Iran harder tonight
The claim surfaced in the form of a screenshot claiming to show a post by Trump on his official Truth Social handle, which states, “Tonight I will hit Iran HARD, harder than I hit Rosie O-Ding-Dong-donnell and Megyn Kelly (, both HIGHLY overrated with ratings far lower than the Great One Mark Levin)."
"The Gay Ayatollah was a fantastic negotiator, one of the best, but all great things must Come to an End. Tonight Iran's regime will be OBLITERATED so they NEVER GET NUKES!!! To quote Jesus, ‘FAFO.’ Kirk Out.”
The screenshot has been amplified by various accounts, garnering tens of thousands of views, and many appear to believe the post to be real, while others dismiss it as fake.
Fact Check: Donald Trump never made such a post
The screenshot, however, is fake as Trump made no such post. A search on his official Truth Social account and commentary account on X, which archives the Truth Social posts, yielded no results that match the text in the screenshot.
A search on Google for relevant keywords showed no credible reports by prominent news media outlets about the president making a statement that matches the alleged post.
Moreover, what many seem to miss is that the post ends by stating, ‘Satirical DTJ.’ Hence, the post was intended as a parody made for the sake of engagement.
Donald Trump warns Iran over delayed talks
The screenshot surfaced after Trump on Tuesday warned that Iran would “pay the price” for what he described as prolonged delays in negotiations amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran.
In a Truth Social post, Trump accused Iran of failing to engage seriously in diplomatic efforts and suggested that the window for a favorable agreement may have closed.
“Iran is all talk and no action. The Bully of the Middle East is DEAD!!! They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price!!!” Trump wrote.
However, he did not elaborate on what consequences Iran could face or whether his remarks signaled additional military, economic, or diplomatic measures.
