The rumor spread after a screenshot claimed to show a post by Trump on his official Truth Social handle.

The purported post read, “Montana should immediately change its name to MOUNTAIN. Many people don't know this, but Montana is a SPANISH word. It means MOUNTAIN!"

"Why are we using Spanish words to name our GREAT AMERICAN STATES? We speak ENGLISH in America, not Spanish! The name MOUNTAIN would bring tremendous VALUE and PRESTIGE to the State."

"Property Values would SKYROCKET, wages would go UP, and the people would be even PROUDER to live in the most BEAUTIFUL State in the Country! The Radical Left doesn't want you to know this."

"They love Spanish Mountains. I love AMERICAN MOUNTAINS! Nobody loves Mountains more than me. The biggest, most beautiful Mountains. We're going to make Montana AMERICAN AGAIN! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

The screenshot has spread across several platforms, including X, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, collectively garnering millions of views. While many appeared to believe it to be an authentic post by Trump, others expressed skepticism and called for a fact-check.

However, the claim is false, as no such post appears on any of Trump’s official social media handles, including Truth Social.

A search on his Truth Social account, as well as on a commentary account that automatically archives all his posts, returned no results that match the text in the screenshot.

A search on Google to check if he had posted and then deleted it yielded no results. If true, it would have been widely covered by prominent news media outlets, making headlines.

The screenshot resembles Trump’s post calling for the state of New Mexico to "immediately change its name to New America."

The post read, “New Mexico should immediately change its name to New America. We are not Mexico; we are the United States of America!"

"The name would add great value and prestige to the State! Home Values and Incomes would rise, and you would be even prouder while saluting our beautiful American Flag! Maybe even the Crooked Elections that New Mexico is known for would become honest again! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
