WASHINGTON, DC: In April 2015, a post attributed to future President Donald Trump circulated on social media. It showed Trump had retweeted a post using sexist language against the then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, questioning her ability to lead the nation.

The tweet has now resurfaced after more than a decade. Let us find out the truth behind the viral post.

Claim: Trump tweeted Hillary Clinton couldn't 'satisfy her husband'

The viral post is in the form of a screenshot showing the tweet from Donald Trump’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, @realDonaldTrump.

"If Hillary Clinton can't satisfy her husband what makes her think she can satisfy America?" the alleged post read.

During Trump’s second term as president, the post resurfaced, and there have been speculations that it is fake.

Several screenshots of the post exist online, and it was even quoted in 2015 and 2016 reports by The Associated Press and Politico. Their articles mentioned that Trump quickly deleted the post.

Fact Check: Original tweet not available to verify the claim

However, fact-checking outlet Snopes found no evidence suggesting the post was fake and also could not find firsthand proof that it was real.

It was not visible on an April 17, 2015, snapshot of Trump's Twitter profile from the Internet Archive, and it pre-dated archives of Trump's tweets that would have preserved the post.

Since there is only secondary evidence supporting the tweet's legitimacy, the claim couldn't be verified.

Trump's past sexist tweets against Hillary Clinton

Donald Trump has a history of making remarks that are seen as sexist. In December 2015, he tweeted, “Hillary Clinton has announced that she is letting her husband out to campaign but HE’S DEMONSTRATED A PENCHANT FOR SEXISM, so inappropriate!”

According to a report by CNN, the “penchant for sexism” line refers to an interview Hillary gave earlier that year to the Des Moines Register, when she used those words to describe Trump after he said she got “schlonged” in her 2008 primary loss to then-Sen Barack Obama, a remark widely seen as sexist.

Trump then appeared to threaten the former secretary of state over the remark in a tweet the next day.

“Hillary, when you complain about ‘a penchant for sexism,’ who are you referring to. I have great respect for women. BE CAREFUL!” he wrote.
