Fact Check: Did WH warn that blue wave in midterms could give Trump a heart attack?
WASHINGTON, DC: As the Republicans are projected to lose the upcoming midterm elections, a rumor is circulating on social media platforms claiming that the White House warned President Donald Trump could suffer a heart attack or stroke if Democrats won the election. The claim has triggered mockery and speculation, prompting a fact-check.
Claim: WH warns Trump's health could decline if Democrats won midterms
The claim appeared on X as a post stating, “White House lawyers are warning that if a blue wave occurs in the midterms, the stress of being investigated, impeached, and turned into a lame duck on the global stage could give Donald Trump a heart attack or stroke.”
The post has garnered more than a million views as of this writing, drawing conflicting reactions from online users. While many appeared to believe it to be an authentic statement, others remained skeptical and called for verification.
Fact Check: The claim originated as satire
The claim, however, is fake, as there is no evidence of such a warning from the White House.
No official statements, announcements, or press releases from the presidential residence or its lawyers have warned about Trump’s health if the Democrats won the upcoming November election.
If the White House lawyers really made such a warning, prominent news outlets would have widely covered it, given the speculation surrounding Trump’s health.
Moreover, the claim was posted by an X account called ‘The Halfway Post,’ which describes itself in the bio as ‘satire.’ Hence, the claim is rated as satire, made for the sake of engagement.
Democrats gain midterm momentum
The claim surfaced as the Republicans and the Trump administration are facing growing pressure and criticism ahead of the midterms due to the war in Iran and rising gas prices.
As of this writing, Democrats are projected to regain control of the House, and Charlie Cook, the founder of the Cook Political Report, has even called it “kind of a done deal,” predicting that they could pick up around 20 seats.
If Democrats win control of either chamber, it could significantly affect Trump's legislative agenda, including the power to investigate and influence legislation, but they can’t confirm or reject Trump’s nominees, which only the Senate does.
If they win both chambers, they really put a check on Trump’s agenda for the rest of his term.
