WASHINGTON, DC: After President Donald Trump announced Stephen Miller as the White House chief of staff, a claim began circulating on social media platforms that Chinese President Xi Jinping blasted Trump for Miller’s appointment. The claim has sparked speculation among online users, with many calling for a fact-check.

Claim: Xi Jinping blasted Donald Trump for Stephen Miller’s appointment, calling it a 'disgrace'

According to an X (formerly Twitter) post that is going viral, Xi blasted Trump over Miller’s appointment as chief of staff.

“It is a disgrace to the American people that someone widely associated with the family separation policy is now being appointed as their new Chief of Staff,” Xi allegedly said.

He supposedly went on to say, “Stephen Miller is known as the architect of the Trump administration’s ‘family separation’ immigration policy, which forcibly separated thousands of migrant children from their parents at the US–Mexico border.”

As per the viral post, Xi concluded by stating, “Trump is a very good friend of mine, but that doesn’t mean I won’t correct him when he makes a wrong decision. I would have chosen someone who enjoys broader acceptance among the American people because, as you can see, some Republican voters are now turning to Democrats after losing confidence in what they voted for last time.”

The post has garnered tens of thousands of views, with comments indicating that many believe the claim to be true, while a few others called for a fact-check.

Fact Check: Xi Jinping made no such remark

The claim, however, is false, as there is no evidence of the Chinese leader reacting to Trump appointing Miller to a new position.

There are no official statements, announcements, press conferences, or any other publicly available transcripts where Xi is heard making the above statement.

If Xi had really made such a remark, it would have been widely covered by credible news outlets, even making headlines, but a search on Google for the claim yielded no such reports.

The claim surfaced after Trump named Miller the new White House chief of staff on Friday, November 6, replacing Susie Wiles.

Subsequently, in a post on X, Miller called Trump "the most transformative political leader in American History" who has "single-handedly saved America from those who would destroy it."

"The mission now is clearer than ever: Fight with all of our soul to support our President and defend this magnificent Republic," he said.
