WASHINGTON, DC: After the great news of midterm victory, in a not so great development for Democrats, President Donald Trump has asked his administration to investigate Democratic leaders who are eyeing impeachment of Trump officials.

Trump referred to the threats as “extortion at the highest level,” as he expressed concern about impeachment discussions inside the Democratic Party.

Trump orders DOJ probe of impeachment-seeking Democrats

In a Truth Social post on Saturday, November 7, Trump accused Democratic leaders of threatening officials with impeachment and other forms of punishment even though “they have no reason to do so.”

“The Democrats are going around threatening a lot of people … with Impeachment and many other forms of punishment, even though they admit they have no reason to do so, and there have been no impeachable acts committed, or even thought of, by the victims of this illegal process,” the president wrote.

“This is extortion at the highest level, and they should be held accountable for this,” he added.

“This is Weaponization and Lawfare at another level,” he continued.

“I am ordering the Department of Justice to look into this criminal act, immediately!” he continued.

It’s not just Democrats who want to impeach Trump officials. Calls for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's impeachment came from both sides of the aisle, with Rep Thomas Massie (R-Ky) telling CNN he plans to call for a vote to impeach the defense secretary.

Democrats say Todd Blanche and Pete Hegseth must go

Trump's Saturday post, saying he had directed the DOJ to investigate Democrats, came two days after two House Democrats voiced support for impeaching administration officials such as Attorney General Todd Blanche and Hegseth.

The impeachment call intensified after Democrats registered a resounding victory in Tuesday’s election.

Rep Hank Johnson (D-Ga) said Thursday on SiriusXM’s 'The Dan Abrams Show' that Blanche should be impeached, convicted and removed from office over his actions.

Fellow Democratic Rep Deborah Ross, who also appeared on the show, agreed with Johnson and said removing Hegseth should be a top priority.

Massie, in an X post earlier this week, said, “There is one contingency in which I won’t reintroduce the articles of impeachment: Hegseth resigns.”

Hegseth responded to the impeachment threats on Thursday in a video posted to X, in which he said, “A disgruntled, defeated congressman, along with all his Democrat allies, has also dropped sham articles of impeachment against yours truly.”
