Fact Check: Do CCTV visuals show Secret Service response to WHCD shooting?
WASHINGTON, DC: Following the shooting at a high-profile event at the White House on Saturday, a video has been circulating on social media platforms claiming to show a fast response by the Secret Service agents in reaction to the shooting, sparking speculations about the video’s authenticity. Let us analyse the viral video and fact-check its authenticity.
Claim: CCTV footage shows Secret Service response to the shooting
The viral video shows Secret Service agents standing outside the hall where the event was happening, and an agent is seen running fast towards the hall, alerting other agents. The agents are then seen wielding their guns and walking towards the hall where shots were fired.
An X post sharing the video stated, “INCREDIBLE. Look at the absolute lightning speed of this Secret Service agent drawing his weapon. Zero hesitation. Total precision. These brave men and women are the best of the best, and they DO NOT play around when it comes to protecting their protectee!”
The video that has garnered millions of views has attracted appreciation from social media users for the quick response from the Secret Service, while a few others claimed that the clip is fabricated and shows an unrealistic reaction by the agents.
Fact Check: The video is AI-generated
However, the video is AI-generated, as is evident from the watermark in the top left corner of the clip, which states, 'CopCutAI.'
The original video was posted by a user named Seth Weathers, who described it as “I enhanced the security footage from last nights assassination attempt using AI. The footage was extremely low quality and it seems AI made up some things to fill in the gaps, but gives a better view of what took place.”
The original CCTV footage has been shared by President Donald Trump on his official Truth Social account, but it is of very poor quality.
Donald Trump evacuated after the shooting
Following the incident, President Donald Trump, attending the event as sitting president for the first time, was evacuated along with First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and FBI Director Kash Patel.
Moments later, Trump addressed the press from the White House, striking a note of unity despite the chaos. “The room was totally unified,” he said, calling the shared experience “a very beautiful thing to see.”
According to reports, the shooting occurred above the ballroom. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Allen of California, was allegedly armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives.
