WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump accepted during an interview that his curiosity to know what exactly happened during the White House Correspondents' Dinner Saturday, April 25, night possibly complicated the Secret Service's evacuation process.
In an interview with CBS News correspondent Norah O'Donnell asked the Republican leader why the agents took ten seconds to “flank you, Mr President, and then 20 seconds to get you out. It looked chaotic.”
Trump says it's him who complicated his evacuation during WHCD shooting
He replied, “Well, what happened is-- it was a little bit me. I wanted to see what was happening, and I wasn't making it that easy for 'em. I wanted to see what was going on.”
Further explaining, Trump shared, “And by that time we started to realize maybe it was a bad problem, different kind of a problem, bad one. And different from what would be normal noise from a ballroom, which you hear all the time. And-- I was surrounded by great people. And I probably made them act a little bit more slowly. I said, ‘Wait a minute, wait a minute. Lemme see. Wait a minute.’”
Trump reveals he and Melania followed Secret Service agents instructions
Also during the interview, the US commander-in-chief revealed that after realizing the severity of the situation he began walking with the agents.
“I was standing up-- pretty much. I was standing up and then turned around in the opposite direction and started pretty much walking out pretty tall, a little bent over because they-- you know, I'm not lookin' to be standing too tall. And-- but I was walking out. I was pretty-- about halfway there when they said, ‘Please go down to the floor. Please go down to the floor.’ So I dropped to the floor. So did the first lady,” he added.
Blanche praises Secret Service for protecting attendees of WHCD
Cole Thomas Allen has been identified as the suspect who opened fire at the Washington Hilton Hotel.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who spoke to NBC’s 'Meet the Press', said that the accused “did in fact set out to target folks who work in the administration, likely including the president.”
He also praised the security personnel and the Secret Service agents.
“The system worked; law enforcement and the Secret Service protected all of us. The man barely got past the perimeter. And so when you have a perimeter designed to keep people safe, like President Trump, and it works - that's something that should be applauded," Blanche told ‘This Week’ anchor George Stephanopoulos.
