CLIVE, IOWA: President Donald Trump on Tuesday, January 27, visited Iowa for a second time in his second term ahead of the mid-term elections. During his speech, the POTUS asked the crowd if they would like to see him for a third time as the President.

Following his speech, people on social media came up with posts claiming that Trump is planning to run for the 2028 presidential poll. But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.

Claim: Posts say Trump plans to run for 2028 presidential poll

During his Iowa visit, Trump once again talked about the 2020 election and said it was rigged. He then said, "I said do we do it again", referring to his run for President in 2020. He then added, "We went twice, we gotta do it the third", as he referred to his current term

Trump then asked the crowd, "Should we do it a fourth time?",as people in the crowd cheered loudly. After his speech, several social media users posted online saying that Trump hinted at running for the 2028 presidential poll.

A user wrote on X while sharing the clip, "Trump teases another run for president: 'Should we do it a fourth time?'" Similarly, another person wrote, "Trump is already campaigning for 2028. 2020 is not over."

Another person expressed their views and wrote, "Here we go. Trump is running in 2028. He's going to win BIGLY for the 4th time!" as one X account stated, "President Donald Trump has once again mentioned the idea of running for president in the 2028 elections."

Fact check: Trump cannot run for a third term as POTUS

The claims made in the online posts are false, as the 22nd Amendment of the US Constitution states that a person can only be elected POTUS for two terms.

Since Donald Trump won in 2016 and 2024, he cannot be elected President again in 2028.

Moreover, in an earlier interview with NBC 'Meet the Press' last May, Trump shut down the idea of a 2028 presidential run. He said during the interview, "I’m looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody."

Trump's statement during the Iowa rally comes just before the upcoming midterm elections. There is no clear reason why the POTUS made the statement during his speech. The POTUS has earlier as well taken to Truth Social to tease for a 2028 run. The only way he can run for a third term is by changing the 22nd Amendment.

Furthermore, there has been no official statement by the POTUS, or the White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, on whether Trump plans to run for the 2028 presidential polls.
