Fact Check: Has Barack Obama quietly applied for political asylum in the UK?

WASHINGTON, DC: A post went viral on X claiming that former President Barack Obama is on the run and has quietly applied for political asylum in the UK. 

As per the post, Obama took this step after the couple purchased a multi-million dollar luxurious mansion in the country. But is there any truth to this viral post? Let us find out below.

Claim: Barack Obama quietly applied for political asylum in the UK

An X user @JoshHall2024 came up with a post that read, "BREAKING: OBAMA ON THE RUN - DISGRACED former President Barack Obama has reportedly quietly applied for political asylum in The UK from the government of fellow leftist Keir Starmer."

"This comes just months after the Obamas purchased a MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR LUXURIOUS MANSION in the country, and as rumors are circulating that Barack Obama is facing an IMMINENT FEDERAL INDICTMENT related to his leadership role in Russiagate here in the United States," the post added.

The X user further mentioned, "Many are calling on The State Department to IMMEDIATELY REVOKE THE PASSPORTS of Obama and Michelle, on the grounds that they are a clear and present FLIGHT RISK."

The X post garnered more than 143,000 views, and more than 4,800 users liked the viral post.

Fact Check: False, no evidence to back the claim

The claims made in the viral X post are false, as there is no credible evidence to prove that Barack Obama is on the run and has quietly applied for political asylum in the UK.

No credible news outlets, UK government statements, US State Department announcements, or official records have reported this. Online searches show only copies of the viral X post.

If the claim were true, it would have dominated global headlines, but there is zero confirmation from credible media outlets or any reputable source. Hence, the claim is fake. 

The X account fits a pattern of posting unsourced "BREAKING" claims for engagement. There is no State Department action, no UK asylum grant, no confirmed mansion, and no Obama indictment.
