WASHINGTON, DC: The United States, with Israeli involvement, has conducted over 10,000 strikes on Iranian targets, significantly degrading Iran's naval capabilities and other military assets since the start of the conflict in February 2026.

In reply, Iran has retaliated with missile attacks on Israel, Gulf states, and US-linked targets. The Strait of Hormuz remains disrupted by Iran, leading to higher global oil prices and shipping issues.

Amid this, a rumor circulated online claiming that more than a million Iranian fighters have been prepared for a possible ground war with the United States. But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.

Claim: Millions of Iranian fighters are ready for a ground war with the US

Several social media accounts came up with posts claiming millions of Iranian fighters have been prepared for a ground war with the US.

An X account wrote, "Over one million Iranian fighters have been prepared for a possible ground war with the United States."

Similarly, another account mentioned, "The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps: More than one million Iranian fighters have been equipped for the ground battle with the United States."

The US-Iran war has widened regionally, affecting Gulf shipping, Lebanon, and other areas, with warnings of potential escalation or radiological risks if nuclear sites are hit.

President Donald Trump has described US operations as "extremely ahead of schedule" and criticized allies, such as NATO, for limited support.

The situation is fluid, with military actions persisting alongside diplomatic efforts, and tensions remain high due to mismatched demands and continued hostilities.

Fact Check: Unrated, claim seems exaggerated

The viral claim that more than a million Iranian fighters have been prepared for a possible ground war with the United States is unrated, as the underlying assertion is unverified Iranian state propaganda and likely exaggerated.

Tasnim News Agency, an Iranian semi-official outlet closely tied to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported on Thursday, March 26, that an informed military source said Iran has 'organized more than one million fighters' for potential ground combat against the US.

The agency added that recruitment centers have seen a 'massive wave' of volunteer applications in recent days. Moreover, multiple international news outlets reported the same story within hours, all attributing it directly to Tasnim.

However, no independent evidence supports the specific figure of 'over one million fighters prepared' for actual combat.

Moreover, Iran’s active-duty military is estimated at roughly 550,000–610,000 personnel. The addition of reserves and Basij gives a theoretical pool of over a million, but the number of fully equipped, trained, and combat-ready ground fighters is far smaller.
