MONTECITO, CALIFORNIA: A viral claim has been circulating on social media that singer Katy Perry and the former Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, have ended their relationship.

The claim has also sparked speculations among netizens, with many questioning its authenticity. Let us examine the origins of the claim and fact-check it.

Claim: Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau broke up

More than a month after Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau confirmed their relationship on social media, a viral claim has been circulating online that the popular singer and the Canadian politician have ended their relationship.

The news first surfaced on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) with a picture of the couple together, accompanied by a caption saying, “Katy Perry has ended her relationship with Justin Trudeau.”

The post had received more than 3.9 million views at the time of writing.

Fact Check: The claim is a parody

The claim is false as no credible media outlets have reported on the alleged breakup of the couple, whose relationship announcement made headlines.

Moreover, the claim came from an X account named Hoops Crave, and its bio suggests that it is a parody account.

A fact-check by Grok, the AI assistant of X, has also debunked the claim, saying, “No credible sources confirm that Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau have ended their relationship as of January 18, 2026. Recent reports from Billboard and People indicate they're still together, with no breakup mentioned. The original post comes from a parody account.”

Katy Perry shares cozy Japan moments with Justin Trudeau

In December, the pop sensation posted an Instagram carousel featuring images and videos from the trip that included Trudeau.

The ‘Dark Horse’ singer gave fans a glimpse into her Japan visit, days after performing there on her ongoing "Lifetimes Tour."

The carousel, captioned, "Tokyo times on tour and more ( ◠‿◠ ) 🎄🍣🐡🥞?☃️♥️," included an outdoor selfie of Perry and Trudeau cheek to cheek, both smiling widely.

A short black-and-white video captured them eating together and sharing affectionate glances, while another clip showed the pair at an interactive art exhibition.

During the trip, Perry accompanied Trudeau to a lunch meeting with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife, Yuko Kishida, on December 3.
