Fact check: Is the video of ICE agents attacking Black church choir real?
WASHINGTON, DC: A video clip circulating widely on social media was shared with the claim that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were shown violently attacking a Black church choir during a service. As the clip continues to spread across other platforms, it sparked speculations about the authenticity of the video. Let us examine the viral clip and fact-check its authenticity.
Claim: Video shows ICE agents attacking Black church choir
The video that began circulating this month was posted on a Facebook page called Branson Area Breaking News.
The video appeared to show ICE agents confronting a Black choir in a street, pulling several singers to the ground.
The caption of the post read, “An elderly African-American church choir blocked a downtown street while singing civil rights hymns, including 'We Shall Not Be Moved,' to prevent the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from advancing during an apparent immigration enforcement operation.”
Fact Check: The video is AI-generated
Although the rumor seemed as factual recounting of real-life events, there is no evidence that ICE agents actually attacked a church choir.
Moreover, the page that posted the video describes its output as being satirical in nature.
Its About page states, "We are a world-renowned satirical news organization & have received many awards for our breaking news stories!”
Searching on search engines, including Google, for 'ICE agents attack Black church choir' revealed only news reports about anti-ICE protesters disrupting a service at a church where a local ICE official apparently served as pastor.
It generated no results about the attack on the church choir, which would have been widely reported if true.
In the viral video, a blurred video moved across the screen throughout the clip.
This blur followed the same motion pattern as a Sora watermark, an indicator added to content generated by AI.
Intensifying protests in Minnesota against ICE
A major ICE crackdown has been going on in Minnesota for the past few weeks following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent identified as Jonathan Ross.
Despite the major row over the killing, the DHS did not take a step back but increased its resources to arrest criminal illegal aliens from Minnesota.
The DHS said ICE arrested several gang members, including some convicted of violent crimes, in Minnesota.
But the process has riled up the residents of Minnesota as the agents are marching on the streets, storming restaurants, daycare centers, and school areas.
